Looks like he got a few more in - I got three of these at $75 and two at $85, the price keeps going up every time he sells out :tinfoil:


A note two those who may be interested: these labbies do not have a collimation system on them since they were fiber coupled in their original application. You will need to create or buy a beam expander to correct the divergence of these units otherwise you get a large blob after a few feet.

What does your collimation method look like?

You need a combination of two lenses to build a basic expander - a short focal length lens followed by a longer focal length lens. The ratio between the focal lengths determines the expansion factor. I used two lenses from projectors and random stuff I had laying around so I can't really point out anything specific you could buy.

Maybe if there's enough interest I could go to Surplus Shed and find some lenses that would work well - I live about 15 minutes away from their warehouse :)

I'll bet something decent could be put together. I wonder what the divergence is, coming off this unit...

While you're there, you ought to pick me up a couple of these.. I'll buy them from you.

To think, 6 weeks ago these would be gone instantly...473nm is sooo last Month :D


EDIT: Just saw the fibre coupling kit his selling that fits these heads, a possible means of a better beam spec (or adapt for use on a 445nm diode?)

To be honest, I like the 473nm hue more than 445nm or even my 488. I'm just collecting wavelengths I guess... one at a time. ;)

These have been around for ages before 445nm was cheap, and they are still a pretty good deal IMO.

Bought without thinking twice! Even though it says on there it's used come one it's 473nm!

Unfortunately, you'll still need to find the right fiber to fit the threads, and fiber is expensive, very much so, and after the fiber, you would need to add a final lens, otherwise you get the same big blue spot...just with more room to maneuver the spot :crackup:

Edit: Apparently the fiber won't be the worst part, he has it for $20

MM what is the output of the driver on these-- at 15-25 $ each would that not be a great deal for use with a 445nm diode?? thanks--hak

edit ==at Exteme Lasers I see op. current of 1amp--wonder what the forward voltage is??

I'm not sure how well it would work, these have pump diodes of around 2 watts, the current is nearly 2 amps but only about 1.2 volts. The driver may not be able to do enough voltage to run a 445 diode.

thanks MM- still has a nice HS and switch tho....at 15$ --Ok-- $25 not so good..imo
