I think that they do in fact have IR filters in them. DX just says they don't to cover their butts.

Sorry to bump this thread. I have heard that they do have weak IR lasers so they are not as safe as the more expensive laser but better than no filtering at all. I have also heard their power is majorly over-rated, a lot of peoples units cannot burn elec tape etc. so soundsl ike the original poster is lucky!
