Hey,

Just spotted this in ebay -

COHERENT INNOVA 90 ARGON ION LASER W/POWER SUPPLY 90-5 on eBay (end time 27-May-10 21:02:45 BST)

More info here -

Laser Innovations - Coherent Innova 90 Ion Laser System

I thought it was a good deal assuming it works of course! A couple of hundred bucks for a possible 1W of multi-line ain't a bad gamble for a project. Over 6000 hrs on it but that's not max out is it? I recently saw a similar one working and would take the plunge myself if wasn't for the lack of a 60hz, 3phase power supply and a little cash!

Says it comes with a 90-5 PSU. Does that mean it is the 5W version posted in the info link or just the PSU number?

If someone dives in then I'd love more photos please!

The plate says 90-5 and the head S/N matches the plate, so I'd say it's the 5W system. That's a pretty awesome price for a 5W argon, but you need industrial 3-phase power, unfortunately. That and it's water-cooled and both parts combined are about 220lbs! So, if you have a lab in which you can set this up, it'd be awesome, but otherwise it's not going to be feasible for most of us. And, that's assuming it all works.

Yeah, it's a toughie. I've been told it is not a massive deal building a 3 phase converter, (haven't researched that so merely hearsay), but to be able to draw 40 odd amps? That would trip everything in the house and probably the rest of the street!

Such a shame but I'm still tempted. At the right time, and this may not be it, that is is almost throw away money. Shipping to the UK? That's another issue altogether. Is there anyone of the Gas Giants that would consider taking custody stateside until I could save up for the shipping at a later date? Maybe have a test and a play too in the mean time?

Pipe dreaming probably but, as in the words of Jim Bowen, (of, 'Bullseye', fame), "Look what you could've won!"

Okay... what sets this apart from the hundreds of other large frame ion lasers listed every month?

Okay... what sets this apart from the hundreds of other large frame ion lasers listed every month?

It may be my new searching parameters but I wasn't aware these were so prolific or cheap. As ever, posting on LPF is proving to be an education.

Are there that many available? Was it listed as large frame? I thought I read small but can't check whilst here at college. This is certainly not the sort of thing I regularly see on UK ebay with broad searches like, 'argon', (brought up a squash racket the other day of all things!), but in the US... ?

Thanks for putting me straight, I'll look out for these in future.
