yea too bad idk how to disassemble it or else i've brought it myself :(

I can't imagine that it will be very long until most of these stores start selling them..

As much as I love LPF and as much as I'm enjoying these group buys, between my lob, my family, my other hobbies and this it's got me worn out.

It is one of the reasons that I rarely run one. The work isn't even done yet. You still have harvesting, packaging, and shipping. Then you will have follow up PM's for awhile ;)

@ Oikos -- You buy it, I'll harvest it.

Peace,
dave

Guys -- I paid $100 for two pieces. I can't afford a whole Projo now and these will be harvested and with lens.
I'm not protesting a little profit for these. If you want them for $29, order the whole damn projo yourself.

Yeah, those are the options.. One can buy individual diodes from the group buys or from anyone who has them to sell, or they can buy the whole projector..

As far as my own involvement in this goes, I already have a source of income and there's only so many hours in the day so I won't be running group buys forever. Other people will begin selling and supplying single diodes. This game's just begun, who knows where it'll end up? I'm sure quite a few people will end up selling these diodes..

Also, making a profit is the American way. If someone is willing to expend their time and effort, they deserve to make a little something off of it. My group buys are no exception. I've got a lot going on in my life right now, so this is very much a lot of extra work.

And finally, I (speaking only for myself) question the wisdom of allowing these diodes to be obtained individually at the cheapest possible price. They are an extremely dangerous source of a lot of high-energy radiation. I have issues with $50 each TBH, but that's what seems fair and it's simplest to calculate. Selling these things for $20-30 is unwise.. but maybe that's because I'm old and no fun..

I wonder when we will be able to buy replacement "bulbs" for this projector?

It looks like the diode assembly comes out, I wonder if you can buy just that part instead of the whole projector. It shouldn't be a normal wear item like a bulb, but maybe they will sell them separately.

Imagine getting that whole array of diodes for 100-200 bucks....

Pontiac --

When the first 100 mW red diodes became available, a few of us bought them for $100+ . We tested, killed and reported on them so others could safely follow. That was over two years ago. 100 mW red diodes are now HOHUM.

I encourage you to get in now and help lead the way into this new technology.

It's always lead or follow (or worse- buy) on here. Appliance opperators are such a waste.

OK Mike I'll buy one I can use the diodes in my WFTM builds.
Thank you Oikos for the good info ;)

I certainly agree the output these diodes seem to be able to maintain is extremely worrisome when you think of all the kids who will want one. The price of course will only go down in time too... We already have problems with greens being aimed at planes. At these powers you know there is going to be an increase in cases of eye damage as well.

I guess at least its good this isn't 1W @ 405nm for $50. With the apparent brightness so low at 405 eye damage cases would show up that much more.

In my personal opinion the FDA did little to help in banning >5mW. It would be much better to institute a license requirement. Of course it would take much more work on their part to put that together but it would be worth it for public safety.
China is only a mouse click away, people will get what they want, at least give them a choice to learn the danger & safety, they might feel more accountable. What would it hurt? Sure it would cost money but millions are blown on just random pet projects.

*wakes from dream*

Huh? I think I dreamed about some new cheap blue laser dropping out of nowhere. LOL

I agree 100%.
In my opinion, these diodes should be used only by those that can make it work on their own.
Making such technology affordable and accessible is dangerous. Anyone who wants to "play" with one of these MUST have respect for it.

But, as it seem, the offer is for USA only, and only for those that have a microsoft cashback account (whatever it is :p) ..... as usual .....
