This just popped up on Ebay less than 30 minutes ago, and I was curious how it performs considering they're asking for $99 plus $37.79 shipping. It's either way over 5mW or a complete rip-off, and unfortunately I don't have the spare cash right now to test it, but if anyone's willing to take a gamble here it is:

BSA Green Laser Genetics ND3X30 Laser Designator Pointer Hunting Survival Rescue | eBay

The host looks pretty neat, and the beam is adjustable. If it's powerful enough then I'd say it's worth the price, but as with all lasers on ebay, it's a gamble :)

That's a ND3 from Laser Genetics. It is a laser, but it's expanded to be used as a flashlight. Btw, it says its <18mW 532nm, Class 2M laser product

Definitely not worth it then. I could get a 100mW+ focusable green laser for that price.

Many people have paid $300 for a beam expander before (although I'm not sure why).

Multi-element expanders can cost way more as they are designed for accuracy to the specs advertised. Larger AR coated lenses are more expensive in general, and then the housing is probably specifically designed to be fitted to a particular laser.

But, if you know how to use a hack saw and some glue, some lenses, PVC and some glue can make a "flashlight" style laser for very few doll-hair amounts.
