To translate what you're seeing -

At 280mW from a tested supply of 1.25a, that's a "zombie diode". It's not some lower output diode that costs less. Rather, it's the standard diode, "not quite working right".

$40 is a lot to pay for a zombie, though I suppose it includes a heatsink (which you'll need, because zombies create lots of heat).

Actually his pricing on the non LED'd diode is pretty darn good! I've bought and built one of his hosts using that heatsink and it's pretty nice.

You do not need a diode press to set the diode: the heatsink is a 2 piece unit and the back bolts to the front to press the diode into place and provide additional heatsinking.

Are you sure he's using zombie diodes?

It seems kind of odd how all of the posts are EXACTLY the same ones. But then again it doesn't make sense to sell a higher powered diode as a lower powered one either.

If I DO get a 445 nm, I think I'm going to buy it from laser66.com. He sells them for $38 plus $2 shipping.

Yep. 250mW at 1.25A of current is basically the definition of a zombie diode :)

For 445 diodes, hands-down, go with DTR. For $42 or $45, or whatever he's selling them for, you're getting the newest diodes from the highest efficiency projectors. It doesn't make sense to buy diodes anywhere else.

Maybe if that thing came in one of those nice labby heatsinks, but only because those things go for $20-$30 each. The diode in the one above is worthless.

Alright, I sent him a message asking him how he chose the power outputs...

Hopefully I'll get a decent response back explaining his methodology.

"they are not all the same they are made in China 24 diodes in the xj-a140 some are better then outhers I test each one with $1000 laser meater
the out put is up and down this way you get what you pay for, not a bad one.you can call me to talk more ,if some one tells you they are all the same I will call them a liar!!! I have gone throu over 200 ,
the power in put is at 1640ma.from driver hope this helps you,
see all may videos on youtub"

Well, that was his response...

Something seems a bit off there... I guess I'll just go watch videos on youtub until I figure it out :D

... I've gotta wonder if he even passed grade school.

I'm reading and re-reading the reply over and over again and it's like a 7 year old wrote it..

"Laser meater" is probably my favorite misspell of his.

Also, his "youtub" videos are non-existent. I sent him a message about that. And about how the diodes couldn't possibly be that much different from eachother without being damaged...

Wait, I cant remember where, but we talked about this guy recently and how stupid he was. I cant remember if he is a member or not. Anyone remember?

EDIT: AHH, it was this stupid driver configuration. laser driver 1.8Ato1.9A for 445nm diode, all the parts | eBay

LOL. I remember that, it was just a few days ago. I had the same feel of familiarity, the "I'M 12 AND MAKIN' MONEH ON EBAY" writing really had that air about it. I laughed then, and I laughed now.

His spelling... grammar and arrogant stance reeks of a pre-high
school aged kid..

"thanks for the heads up on the video,I mad a new one and took down the old link should work now,the diodes average around 1.5w with my 1650ma driver some times you get some that go to 1.9 and the 1.9 are rare I have gotten 4 from 1 projector befor and some time 0 ,and gust get 1 1.8w in 1 projector .the last one had about 6-1.7w 1-1.9 2-1.8w and a lot of 1.5w,
and yes you are right they are just zombie (damaged) diodes or something. I like my buyers to get what they pay for.thats why I have good feedback. ps the projector can run on 8 diodes I was told by a frend, but in a darker room."

I think he was a little more awake for this response. However, I think he should state that they are damaged diodes in the descriptions...otherwise buyers' diodes would die sooner than undamaged ones.\

EDIT;

Here's a youtube video of his http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOd0nsOez5Y

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcbey444nHc at least he uses safety googles!

Jerry,
Do you have one of those in USB? would be a really neat portable, and stable too, assuming a good table to mount it......

Yeah, I know, send you the $1,000 and you'll let me know.
