I managed to get the cap off the end of my blue laser and adjusted the focus a bit. It can burn any dark material pretty easily. I haven't tried matches yet.

I bought some 800mAh Duracell rechargeables at wal-mart yesterday and they seem to work pretty well (better than alkalines). Not sure if I'm gonna spend more on eneloops or not.

Just ordered a 405nm. Hope it's neither too powerful nor too weak, some 50mW would be cool :)

got my 3-532nm yesterday. 1 was pretty much junk. it powers up bright for a milla second then pretty much dead, so i emailed them about it. the other LPM'ed at 36mw, and the other like 27mw. there actually nice little lasers for the price. hope they replace this one that's junk. also the one that does 27mw mode hopes.

EDIT: so i received my 2 sparkling stars Star Cap 532nm laser's today and i must say i'm impressed. the one pushes 70mw, the other 30mw. so i would say it's a better deal as though it's a 2 in 1 laser. a pointer and star cap.

here's a link. http://www.ebay.com/itm/170910804303?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

LOL, how can a Super Moderator of the LPF forum without a laser ?
You should have at least one laser for keeping up appearances. :)

is there a trick to get the connection right? i noticed some tail caps work and some dont...on a couple if i screw the cap all the way it wont work so i have to unscrew it a turn to make it work...some are bright for a second then dim out....also some work ok then if i take the batteries out and put them right back in it wont...how can i make the connection better? i bought 7 and only 2-3 really work,im having the most problems with the green ones.....

ps. im just using rayovac batteries if that matters

please help,i bought these as gifts and they seem very inconsistant

I had this problem with one of my lasers in the past. Usually if you shove some aluminum foil down the back piece it will help tighten the connection.

I have received 5x 405s ans 1x 523. The green has worked for 1nanosecond around 30mw and then gone very weak IR, not pumping anymore.

The 405´s are mostly fabulous. Don´t have LPM but I guess they are around 50-90mw, one of them probably beating the 100mw mark, I have extracted one with the dremel to investigate more in deep.

All they consume around 200ma(pre-driver ). You can unscrew and focus the uncoated lens with a trick. Take a office clip, and cut it in long u-shape, so you can use it as screwer to focus and... tadaaa, it burns consistently and pretty fast all the black plastics around.

The bad thing is the output beam diameter, is quite long, around 5mm. Don´t have enought knowledge of optic... this is for the lenses or for the diode?. Is there any way to get 1-2mm at aperture, so it can burn without having to focus?.

nice, any tips of how you extracted it. i'm considering extracting a 532nm for putting in a c6 that i have laying around for a nice little pointer.

You could try putting a small magnet at the bottom of the battery compartment so it makes better contact. My green has issues as well, but I just use the battery end from my 405 and it works fine.

I put a magnet between the 1st and 2nd cell, then a little peace of aluminum foil balled up in the bottom. That way I can get magnet and battery out later on.

For extracting i used a metal disc cutter in the dremel and cut longitudinally, the metaltube opens and voila

Sorry to bump this back up but I was thinking about buying one of the 532 pens and was curious what results people were getting from them when I saw the following post.

I bought some 800mAh Duracell rechargeables at wal-mart yesterday and they seem to work pretty well (better than alkalines). Not sure if I'm gonna spend more on eneloops or not.

Here's a little "secret" about Duracell rechargeables. They don't seem make their own. Look at the top of the battery and if it's white and "Made in Japan" is on the side guess who makes them? Yup. Sanyo. They're rebranded eneloops. If the top is black and they're made in China they're rebadged Rayovacs which aren't too bad but not as good. Google "Duraloop" for more info.

Of course neither Duracell nor Sanyo have commented but people who know a lot more about batteries than I ever will have pretty much confirmed this to be true.

Since this is bumped, I think I forgot to post my results. I got 43mW from a 532nm.
