WTF this lens is made of???

I'm talking about the lens in DX and new o-like modules. I've tried to scratch mine with a hardened screwdriver real hard - nothing, I've even hammered the screwdriver - still nothing - the lens just popped out of the module, and it looks perfect... crazy, I know... anyways, I seriously doubt you can damage this thing with a cloth while you clean it :D

So any guesses what it is made of?

Optic grade glass ..... and you're lucky, i chipped one from an old o-like module just forcing it from the border.

Thanks. I wonder if dilda's lens is made of the same material? Not that I will attempt to scratch it. I only performed this crazy experiment cause I ruined the top part of the o-like's module by sandpapering its bottom in an attempt to fine-tune divergence. Bad idea, it was already focused very well, I only made it worse. Now waiting for the 5mW DX module to arrive to harvest that part from it.

I'm thinking it's most likely a diamond lens. I would expect that sort of quality from DX.

Maybe it's made of quartz. :D

LOL That was actually "200mW" from o-like. But I expected it be some cheap acrylic. Or I definitely thought I could scratch it. Lens aside, this thing survived a lot of abuse. E.g. I accidentally shorted the circuit while installing the module into the host, the spring overheated, blackened and lost resilience, so I had to replace it with a new one. But the module works just fine. I just need to replace the top part now :)

^ also cause sapphire is usually used in laser rockets powered from gigawatt pulsed-mode IR lasers  .....

Seriously, don't know about the DX modules, the ones with the tip more small than the body, but the cylindrical modules i got from o-like, also the 5mW modules have glass lens, no acrylic ones .....
