Oh, my. I think I'm in love. I'd forgotten just how damn fun a green laser is.

I opted for the 50 mw pointer, and it's plain awesome. Back at Christmas, I had a 50 mw DX-style green that my mom got off Amazon as a present for me (that pointer fagged out, and the seller was kind enough to offer me a refund.

I told you that to tell you this; The Led Shoppe pointer is head and shoulders above the DX style in just about every way I can measure. With the supplied China Cheapy batteries, it'll cause a noticeable warming sensation on my skin. The beam is clearly visible in a room lit with a 100 watt bulb, and outdoors, the dot is visible god only knows how far away. I just lit up the top of a 300 foot radio tower that's about six blocks away.

The beam quality seems quite good at this point. I'm not seeing any of the scatter, spatter, or spikes that I saw in my DX style laser.

The threads seem tighter, and the button seems more responsive. I'm almost certain the optics are of better quality and design.

Time from my order to delivery - 13 days.

This thing is great. I'm off to go play.

Yeah I loved my LedShoppe laser. Definitely worth the price. I'm really mad that I broke it, but it was fun while it lasted. Now I'm waiting for my CNI 50mW to come in, that will be great fun.

How did you break it?

Well I started messing with the focusing thingy inside it because I found out that you can actually focus it, it just is glued into the position where the beam is collimated (focused @ infinity...well almost) but then I unscrewed it too far and couldn't get it back in properly, then the lens popped out and i couldn't get it back in right, then I took it back out and broke something else, then I got really frustrated and tried to just take the whole module out and failed and ended up making the laser useless.

I recommend LED Shoppe, I have ordered from them 2 lasers at a time, about 7 times, and I did get a couple of ones that were under spec, but the supplier sent replacement units in 2 weeks. I can keep the bad units and use them for Blu-ray hosts as they didn't ask for them back. Also, out of the about ten 50 mW ones two were about 75 mW! And I got a 30 mW one that does 50+ the last order. :yh: -Glenn

Small update: The spot seems to get a little spikey if I run the laser for an excessive period of time. After a cooldown, it's back to normal (smooth and round.)

Also, I managed to smoke my wallet (black leather,) using the lens from an old Inova X1 flashlight.

Out of curiosity, I looked for IR using a red Fenix brand filter and a digital camera. I don't know how much, but I can tell you that IR is making it out of the aperture, and that it seems to be fairly well collimated. My camera showed a white spot about the size of a quarter at 15 feet.

I sauteed some onions and smoked the oil a bit on purpose. Damn, that beam looks good!

I'll post other discoveries if I come across them.

Hmm. Mine doesn't cause any noticeable burning (except through garbage bag layers :p) but I really can't complain for the price. Works awesome!

Like I said, I was only able to burn with the lens from my Inova X1 (it's AR coated.) I looked through my Fenix red filter to view the dot, to determine the correct focus. Focal length was about 2-3 inches.

Update to my earlier post, I tried the ones that didn't work before, and now, all are great except 1 laser, that's out of 14 lasers, so great by any comparison I can make.

Oh, and when I reported the 1st one that didn't work well, the did ask for it back now, but that's O.K. -Glenn

I bought the 5mw sku 091 from DX for $10.50 and it looks as bright as my 30mw which was hand carried here from china. neither has been tested for power but I do have a meter on the way, so there will be a report to soon follow.

Best Wishes to all Pyro... ;)

I just received my 50mw laser from LedShoppe. The dot seemed quite large to begin with, but there was no visible laser indoors like the OP said. I kept it on for around 2 mins and the only thing that has changed is the dot size, it has got smaller. Is this right or is mine broken or something?

jt78963, The dot will look larger when the laser is much brighter, use goggles to see if the dot is really small. I think your laser is dimming after long on time, I usually don't keep a pen laser of over 40 mW on for over 1 min. It can be damaged by over heating the driver or the diode. Some will just dim due to being an unstable driver or a crystal set that is so near misaligned that after slight warming, it is too misaligned to be efficient. These are too hard to open and work on for many of us, so, when I had one that dimmed a great deal in just a second, and got it replaced as a defective unit.

I got a couple more 50 mW's last week, and one was 60 mW the second was a whopping 139 to 169 mW! I lighted a match with it! WOOT! -Glenn
