shame my comp isnt playing embedded vids:(
But let me guess, they used the IR to track who was using the laser? Lasers should NEVER be pointed anywere close to any kind of air traffic, regardless of what kind, they'd probably get you for shinning it at a damn UFO if they could, thats the way the gov't is nowadays.
Nice pic, good to know we've got another female cuttie among us:D
Enjoy the forums;)

WL gets some negative press. at least now everybody knows where to get high power lasers to shoot helicopters with. News fail!

This is somewhat misleading...

"green lasers can burn... etc...

... red laser pointers aren't likely to do any damage"

An example of that you shouldn't believe everything you hear on TV

Its all misleading, they dont know nor do they want to know the truth, whatever gets you to watch their newscast they use, so when they say that a 'local terrorist was using an industrial powered laser to try and crash helicopters' that usually gets people to stay for the comercial.
I saw a story last month about a guy in WV shinning an 'industrial' green laser at a pig copter because it kept circling his house at 4am, when you actually read the facts in a paper or else where you see that its just a cheap crappy 20mW rated pen from china, far from industrial IMO.
And thats how wicked gets its business, press and google searches, the majority of WL customers are noobs that dont know better, and see an expensive laser and say ' OH sweet, they must be the best!'

Now hold on here, they just used an IR (aka night vision) camera to track him down. This doesn't have anything to do with the IR emitted by his laser...

I just loled at the poll, too ..... yeah, right, not "made up on purpose" for sure :p

Anyway, it's a stupidity to point a laser at any type of airplane (especially police ones, knowing that they have FLIR cameras on board :p), but, imho, is much more stupid to diffuse those bulls*its about lasers on news .....

btw, about the "green burn, red not" BS ..... want to ask to these persons to put their hands in front of a 10W red laser, and see what they say, after ..... :p

Ya I saw a video while ago showing what the cameras see, and it was very very easy to pin-point the guy in their back yard, see him on infrared, and call cops to go there.

My latest laser, the Rayfoss 200mW, is no IR filter. Same with my bluray. But as stated above, It's stupid that people even do it. Never makes since why some kids think its 'cool' to shine lasers at planes during landing/take off. What much do you gain from that? Reasons I don't even take mine outside...Yet I understand a lot of lasers (like my 5mw) are claimed for "Telescope star-pointing" use.

Blu-ray/violet (405nm) are in the majority, diode lasers, not DPSS lasers like green/blue/yellow. They do not use an IR diode, they use a violet diode, there for there isnt any IR being emmited from that laser, making an IR filter pointless(unless you have a DPSS 405nm);)

especially if you are trying to point it at police helicopter

First of all, pointing it at helicopters is not something ANYONE TRIES, RIGHT? A part from that, I can't see how does the IR filter affects it. They just used night vision!

Also, I laughed at the guy aiming the red laser at the TV camera. Isn't this the easiest and fastest way to fuck up a several thousands dollar camera >.>

I know!!!! also, the word you would want to use is "sarcastic" not "ironic" for that particular sentence.

Could you clarify the difference? At least, in Spanish the terms are very similar "sarcastico" "ironico" and I would have used "ironico" :D

well in i dictionary they are similar but in english sarcastic is like being a smart ass, being directed at a person. and ironic is like an smart ass, but used more in literary terms, not so much directed at a person. i hope that helped. I'm not very good at explaining things. i'm sure dave could help more.
