We always see that green lasers' lifetime is between 3000-5000 hours.

If you use your laser for an hour everday at average, this makes about 8,2 -13,7 years!

I haven't used a laser that long so I am curious who has the oldest perfect working green laser?  :-? ::)
perfect working = works like the day you bought it!

I have one that I received as an engineering sample from Aixiz to determine if the lifetime would be adequate for my projects.. It's a 50mW Green labby that has been powered on continuously for over 3 months now. At 24 hrs a day x 90 days = 2160 hours with no noticeable degradation. I'm sure someone here has that beat by a long shot, but it's still not too shabby for a laser that Aixiz sells for $65..

Labbys are different. They are made to work continuosly.
What I am talking about are the pensized handhelds :)
Lifetime of them can be correct.
Lots of us have lasers that instantly die or faint.
They die because of high voltage or being too hot but what is the reason of their power faint?
How a 100mW laser can faint and works as a 30mW laser?

I suppose there is no handheld lasers around here used more than a year as everbody goes for higher powers and new colors  :)

I used my first 2 pen lasers for 3 + years each Murrat, and I still have a pen that is 6 years old that is doing fine except the module slipped back, and so it's collimation is poor, the unit remains bright, but the dot is 4 inch on a wall 30 feet away, but that's just collimation, the laser is fine. I believe with no big knocks, and reasonably low humidity and reasonable duty cycle, a pen would likely last >4,000 hours on average. But there is some guesswork in this estimate. I currently own 6 Greenies made at least 5 years ago though. -Glenn

My X105 isn't that old but I've used it a lot over the past year and some months I've owned it...
I've done a LOT of mods (crystal re-alignment, replacing optics, removing IR filter, playing with the pump diode, putting it into a Galileo body, tweaking the potentiometer, etc.) and it's actually been subjected to a lot of physical trauma...

I've dropped the module onto a wood floor from about 4 feet.
I've used it in >100 degree weather (Fahrenheit).
I've used it underwater.
I've run it for 10 minutes at a time.
...And all kinds of other things you shouldn't subject a delicate electronic device to.

I use it every day.
It runs great, and even better than the day I received it.

What happened to mine then :)
Thanks all for your answers.
Can anyone tell me what can be the reason for myX105s power drop!
All my fault can be just trying to test if it can work with my li-ion 3V (I measured 3,28V with a multimeter) 15270 CR2 battery.
It worked fine.
After a week I discovered that its power is as low as 30mW with full charged 2 AAA batteries.
Can anyone have any idea what can be the problem? :(

I have a 7.5mw green hand held. It is a module with a separate power source. I bought it back in 1999 from MWK Industries. They are still in business but no longer sell "small" lasers. I paid $700 for the laser and I believe $325 for the power source. When I first lit that up I was in love. However my wife then never let me forget what an immature, dumb, stupid idiot I was for shelling out all that money for a "green light". I still have the laser, used it for probably 100 hours or more. The gelatin IR filter at the exit aperture has degraded a bit and now it emits a green fog. I would like to get that fixed.

its probablt the driver that failed to regulated the current correctly with the increased voltage
so u probably killed the diode

I don't think we can call it an increased voltage as 2 AAA full batteries can be measured 3,2V.
And if I killed the diode why it still working?

Hey usakicksass what does your wife think about your new laser:)

Maybe you should have asked "Who has the oldest green laser pointer?" Being specific is quite helpful in all aspects of life..

If your laser is fading it is either because of pump diode facet damage or crystal misalignment/grey tracking.. (of course this is assuming you're using fresh batteries).

I bought my first Green Laser Pointer from AiXiZ, just as they dropped to 50€
2006 or even end of 2005 i think.
Works still like a charm - great quality ! ;)

You are right. I should have asked for oldest laser pointer :)

Here are some photos of my nova and some close ups!
