Where should I buy my laser?

Hey

I'm new here, and I registered here because I wanted to hear some opinions on what laser i should buy and where I should buy it. I have heard about Dealextreme.com and Wickedlasers.com. Wicked Lasers seem serious, but people on this forum seem to not like the lasers. Why?

I don't want to spend more than 150 $ on the laser. Destroying balloons and that kind of stuff don't matter very much. I just want a powerful and bright green beam.

At the moment Wicked Laser Executive 15 mW or 35 mW, Wicked Laser CORE and 200mW Green Laser Pointer Pen Black from Deal Extreme are the alternatives.

Thanks for helping me. I'm new at this:yh:

for way less than 150 bucks you can get a kick ass green from www.o-like.com or www.ledshoppe.com but be sure to get safety goggles for the appropriate wavelength. green lasers also put out dangerous IR light. it is debatable how dangerous but better safe than sorry. and people do not like wl because they are underspec and way over price.

I don't think the true means anything because that laser sure as hell won't be putting out 200mW. Most of DX's lasers are actually way under the mW output power they are rated as. The trues 5's however are usually over 5mW sometimes up to 30mW's.If you are looking for a powerful pen try the Opto 150mW:

Optotronics Product Details

It's a little expensive but great quality.

how comes noone has told him yet about hopw shitty wickedlasers is??

Welcome to the forum, and listen me:

1.- Forget about wicked lasers, block the site on your browser or just erase the name from your head. They sell bad quality lasers at mad prices, and they actually still sell them because they spend a lot of money on ads etc.

2.-If you want a ceap pointer, go dealextreme, for 20$ the true 50mW is a very good option. True means that they use the samsung chip, and its suposed to have a better power than the others. But at the end, if you go higher than 50mW they are all underpowered.

3.-If you want to spend 150$, go rayfoss.com and get the 200mW green laser, it will beat any other green laser you can find at this price, not to say about what you get on wickedlasers for 150$ >.>

Thank you for all the answers. I've found out that I'm not going to order anything from Wicked Lasers. Dealextreme sells cheap (and good?) lasers, so I think I will order from them. These are the alternatives right now:

DealExtreme: $20.90 True 50mW Green Laser Pointer Pen Black
DealExtreme: $36.50 True 100mW Green Laser Pointer Pen Black
DealExtreme: $59.99 200mW Green Laser Pointer Pen Black

Which one should I go for? As I said, I want a a strong and visible beam. I don't need to burn things and destroy balloons :) Is 50 mW the weakest one and the 200 mW the strongest one, or is all this just wrong? :s

I would say go for True 50mW wich is good if you don't wanna burn stuff. True 100mW maybe be underpowered and 200mW don't even think about it... I mean I am SURE that it is underpowered so... Go for True 50mW :)

I don't want to argue with a bunch of people who actually know what they are talking about, but in early 06 I purchased my WL Fusion, and it has worked well up until now. I always kept it in its case when not in use, and I was gentle when using it. All I want to say is that they are not complete shit like what others are saying.

I don't think anyone said that DX sells "good" lasers ... Reread the posts and actually try and get the cost issue out of your head (just because they're cheaper than anyone else doesn't mean that somehow, miraculously someone will recommend them and give you a reason to buy cheap crap!) ... O-like (and to a lesser extent, Rayfoss) is your best bet for low-buck lasers that will always be what you pay for, from there you start looking at the low-end Optotronics stuff (very consistant and high=quality, just a bit more money) and then you start looking at spending some real money for CNI, Optotronics higher-end, or Laserglow.

If you want a cheapie for pointing, the LED Shoppe pointers are a pretty safe bet, a couple of bucks more than DX but proven consistant ( I know, I've resold over 40 of them!) ...

Bottom line, DX is 90% crap, with the occasional surprise - is that really worth risking your $$?

I like my true 50mw, it's the one in my avatar(wait, it's a doctored pic, let me put my other one up), I'm getting a much better one that's 100mw but it was a little over 100$ and that's used lol. I say opto, o-like or from someone in the B/S/T section of the forum.

I never even thought about it - I have a LaserGlow Galileo that has been retrofitted with an O-like module, puts out 144mW steady with a really nice beam, runs off a single CR2 that I'd let go for $125 shipped in the US (providing you're over 18 and are planning on picking up a set of protective glasses) - not to hijack the thread with merciless marketing, but I figured it was worth mentioning....

BTW YGG - that mini-RPL is from Jeff right? That's one of "My" kids - take care of it, that's a great little laser!
