Hey guys.

Im sure what i am asking sounds very odd but heres what i need.

Im looking to buy a underspec laser, the reason is because it is for a friend and he does not want anything above 5 mw. He also wants it cheap and with some sort of gaurentee or warrenty.

To be quite honest i only know where to buy overspec lasers and high power lasers. So anyhow the laser i need has to have a warrenty or be really cheap. I dont want to hand him a laser off ebay because i already had 2 die on me within a month. One died within 5 mins of use.

Any way if anyon on here has a cheap laser id be willing to buy it aswell.

Let me know!!!

Thanks,
Jeff

Can you buy him an ebay laser such as those from etimeshop (which seem to be overspec) and either pot mod it down to 5mW, or just have him run NiMh cells. I think they are like $7.04 shipped. All this stuff is made in China, so I don't think there is going to be a good warrantee on any of it. Return shipping cost more than a new laser with shipping.

Well that is a good idea and i had thought about emailing chinese companys about tunigg one down but he desnt want to wait 2 plus weeks. The problem with ebay is some lasers dont come with a pot and i am forking my own cash out to make sure he gets the power he wants. I would rather not take apart a laser and risk breaking it at my own cost even tho its not hard and i have done it before. Its just too much work for me haha. I was moreless hoping i some1 on here had a bunch of 5 mws they would be willing to part with.

Ill keep my eye out and at the same time ill be watching this thread :)

Thanks,
Jeff

It's not cheap, but the Core, by Wicked Lasers, is a very nice 5mW laser, and it's good on batteries and comes with a hard plastic case, but like I said, it's not cheap, it's $60.

also with respect to what cheap is? if i want all the stuff you as for 5mw, warranty etc.... Radio Shack would be my choice but thats about 50 bucks :yabbem: do you have accsess to a LPM? if so you could do as mik suggested and pot mod a chinese one down.

I have a couple, three actually of 3-5 mW lasers, all good quality and new condition. One is a WL Core, another is a ball point pen with a 3 mW pulsed green laser in a "true ball-point pen", and the third is a LaserGlow that is doing about 5 mW, but the pocket clip is missing, all are perfect & well tested and "new condition" third one is a black and gold color LG "pen laser" any for $45 all definitely work and have been well tested, have low divergence and stable output. Please let me know. -Glenn

Your not the first person to ask, alot of people want the <5mW greens for their cats. The majority of the egay pens are overspec, ranging from 10mW up near 100mW, so unless you want to pot mod it, egay probably isnt the best bet.
Glenn is giving you a nice offer, and he is an all around great guy, buying one from him, IMO would be your best bet:D

Well guys thanks for the input, I can however get a genuine wl core off ebay for 46$ shipped. Uhm i thinm my friend only wants to pay 25$ max.

How i came to this situation was, I bought a wl core for another buddy of mine and now my other buddy wants one but for cheaper. So i told him id look around and ended up using lpf as my last resort. I do not have access to a lpm but im sure i could dwindle a ebay laser down using my cell phone + core as a refrence. I know IR is a risk but if that is what he wants then its all i can provide.

I would like to thank you glenn for the offer and i would surely accept it but i dont think he wants them for that price.

Thanks to everyone who has posted, It was all helpful! :thanks:

Jeff.
