When and How did you get into Lasers?

Well all i want to know is a few stories on where and how you got into lasers. [smiley=smiley.gif]

I first became interested in lasers when I was about 8 years old, 10 years ago. My family visited a museum in Toronto Canada, we live in Ottawa, a 5 hour drive away, and we visited Toronto avery year. Well anyway, that year they had special laser exhibit at the museum. They demonstrated many differant types of laser, and had one large CO2 gas laser, that at the end of the demonstration, they carved peoples names into a piece of wood with. I still have that carved wood on my door. Ever since then I was interested in laser, although, I didn't get on until I was in grade 8, and it was only a 1mw red. Well that's my story.

i was looking for a laser aiming device for a rifle and chose the surefire l72 series. i went to an indoor range where powder smoke filled air and upon turning my 5mw red on was amazed at the solid red beam projected at target. then i bought a green aiming device and on and on and on

I hear ya with the on, and on, and on part ! Started in lasers years ago - always been fascinated by them - anything with power ;D Started out (recently) by buying a 5mw greenie on fleabay - looks more like a nose hair trimmer than a laser, but saw the beam, and was hooked for life....did massive research, lots of forum reading, and have been gobbling up my "IT budget" with lasers since. Built the now moderately famous DVD burner laser - awesome red power and bought a few more high power red units, doing some "time tunnel" fun, and "liquid sky" and now - I have an Aries 175, that I bought at less then a week old from Windstrings - you know, doing him a favor so he could upgrade ! hehehehehe...we BOTH got the best part of that deal - until I see his Herc in action....then I gotta get one...

well when i was a kid i got a cheap red laser for my birthday and ever since then i have loved lasers. i ordered a cheap green one from amazon a few months ago but it died in a month. but just today i ordered one of swimminsurfer256's overspec 5mw greens. hopefully those are better quality than the one i got on amazon but for $13 i wouldnt care if it broke in a week (hopefully it wont).

@ 12 years old i got a laser crab( old version )
after 3 days i opend it and inside a HeNe laser tube ! right after i was into lasers ever since...

I was watching "kipkay" videos and came across some of his laser vids
I was amazed how powerful and cool they looked.
Unfortunatly i live in aus and cant get high power lasers in
