The simple answer is: No, you can't easily modify it unless you want to try pot modding which is likley to kill it.

The complex answer depends on what exact laser you bought, link or pictures would be helpful  :)

There isn't really anything practical that you can do to it if you want it to stay alive.

These small lasers typically run the pump diode and crystal set at absolute maximum already. A pot mod may simply kill the pump diode. A mod is technically possible, but very very involved. You must be able to disassemble the laser, replace the pump diode and it's driver with higher output. You must be able to purchase an Nd:YAG and KTP with the appropriate coatings and rated for the power of your pump diode.
You must be able to align the crystals to each other and the pump diode, then lock them in place. You must heatsink the crystals and pump properly. You will need metalworking equipment and electronic test equipment, plus a laser power meter. Lastly, time and patience. If you are going to go through the above, just build a green from scratch into your own host. It is still legal to import drive diodes and laser crystals to the USA.

Bill.

LOL

it is a laser forum :p

ive been here for approx 1-2monrths and have learnt TONS ![/quote]

I've been here since February and because of me being cheap, have never ventured too far into the DIY aspect.
Ironically I found this forum by using a website that gives you free stuff for completing surveys, in which I found DealExtreme and requested a True 30mW greenie, and in the DX forum someone said go here. I've enjoyed it ever since.

yeah, no. you really should not mod a laser... the good ones that run you about 600 usd + are not modable. i got a descent 100mw laser, that is pot modable, but hell, i spent my moneys worth on it, and i dont need to pot mod it :) Basically what im saying is that if you dont spend the money on your laser, then u wont get what you want!
sorry.
now, i suppose that you "can" pot mod your laser, but if its a cheap laser to begin with it technically already is pot moded. u see, in the cheap lasers, they put cheap pump diodes, that max out at 5mW or what ever. then when you go to turn it to get more power, you crack the crystal, or just kill your pump diode. and, if you have a green laser (common) or any other color, other than red, ur producing a shit load of IR. and, since its a cheap laser, there is no IR filter, so you look down the tube (dummy) and dont think that anything is coming out, but in fact, ur blinding yourself with over 5 mW of IR.......

so, to answer your question, go spend at least $100 usd, or dont get into our hobby!

Hehe, usually they use 100mW IR pump diodes to get 5mW of green.

Actually, I believe they use a ~500mW pump. It's cheaper to use inexpensive crystals than to use better ones.
