Well to be honest, I don't mean "absolutely reliable". I mean something that won't fall apart in 2 days like the higher powered DX green lasers. Ideally, it would be the KD copper body but at 200mW. So what's the closest thing to that for cheap?

To summarise: I want a lightsaber.
You aren't going to get a 200mW green for $140 ;) You arent going to even get a good 100mW for that price.
Even 200mW green isn't going to be a lightsaber without fog. The beam will be bright, but without fog it is not going to be near a lightsaber. A 5mW green looks like a lightsaber in fog though.

I don't mind waiting at all, but it would feel seriously dirty to buy a £200 laser ($400). And even at that price it's still in the <150mW range.
Well....those are the prices :-/ unless you wait a bit more for the prices to drop :p

At this rate it sounds like it would be easier to knock up a 60W "real" laser.

I wouldn't, baby photons are a huge commitment. And then there's 9 months of dealing with a pregnant laser. It's a big headache man, I'd just avoid it altogether.

again i think you should look into the DX 35mw lab module - knimrod ran his at 100mw and it ran great until a loose connection killed the pump diode (fixable with some glue around the wires) and it would leave you some extra money

Didn't mean that sort of "knock up" ;D

I'll look into the 35mW lab module. Hmm, maybe that isn't the best thing to do without goggles.

How is it powered anyway? (I see 5V, DC?). Has anyone managed to turn it into a portable yet?

Re: What's THE most reliable green laser under $14

I think if someone would offer to build green portables of medium to high power (would need parts, science and probably a purchase list from members) he could have great success with them if:
1. they would have equilavent brightness, burn power and generally "optical qualities" with same-wattage lasers from reputable companies
2. they would cost significantly less, in the region of half the price those established producers are asking

So... anyone ? :)

Pseudo is offering the same laser as the Optotronics RPL,and I'm sure he does a decent amount of testing before selling them.Bluefusion always says that he builds custom lasers for cheap. ::) They'll probably post here themselves anyway ::)

Not exacty half the pirce but it's a start ::)

Is this BlazeLasers a small (enthusiast) workshop which assembles lasers or do they also sell the products of a bigger manufacturer ? If they manufacture them, are there any conclusive comparisons here of their lasers relative to same-wattage lasers of other producers ?

Blazelasers is run by BlueFusion and Spyrorocks of this very forum. I believe they sell lasers from a manufacturer, but I couldn't say which one. I know they definitely don't assemble them by hand, though.

They get their lasers from S-KY. A few people say they can custom build green lasers, but the truth is... well.. you can.. BUT, it is a very tedious and costly proccess. I'd say save up and get something fo quality, like Nova.

Optotronics and the such is already offering a very good deal.Half the price would not only mean no profit, it would probably mean losing money. ::) ::)

And that's why I said I'm interested in buying from DIY or a small workshop of enthusiasts business ;)

So is it certain Blaze buy from S-KY ? Are they "standard" S-KY lasers or customed some way ? Are these ok for reliability and general quality ?

Re: What's THE most reliable green laser under $14

They're as good as S-KY lasers. As far as I know, nothing is done to them when they receive the product except thorough inspection for defects and issues, as well as thorough power testing with laser power meters.
