I just got back from China and bought this from a street vendor. He claimed it was good for 5Km. pointer - Imgur

I can turn the lens on the end and make the beam larger. I can easily see the unexpanded dot on the top of a tower about half a mile away.

It quickly pokes holes in black styrofoam (dry erase board erasers), will put holes in plastic wrapper on a bottle, and when I bought it, he demonstrated it making a cigarette butt start smoking in a few seconds.

I don't have a meter to measure it, though I'm looking at the DiY plans here (how I found the site). Haven't tried a match or a balloon yet.

I was just wondering if it was a typical generic model or if someone had any experience with one of these and might be able to tell me more. I got a different one that said < 350mW but that was a gift to a friend. It wouldn't burn through anything like this one does (though it's limited). So I'm guessing this one is somewhere between 350 and 999.

Hey, it only cost me about $36usd. So I can't complain in any case.

you can't even really guess the power until you put it on a laser power meter. i have a 100mw from lazerer that can burn all kinds of stuff. but lazerer also certifies all his stuff. if it's green and in that housing, i wouldn't expect anything above 200mw.

I have a 50mw green laser pointer but it only gives around 50mw when I put brand new batteries into it and turn it on for the first time and after that it gradually goes down to around 5mw. Is there anyway to keep its output at 50mw until the 2 AAA batteries are dead
