Hello everybody. Sorry if mi english is not very good.
I have discovered the laser world few days ago..... and I want to burn something.
I was looking for a green laser for helping my photo camera focusing at night, and I bought one 50mw green laser from ebay.

Later I discovered the amazing burning world. Surfing ebay I saw this one and I was wondering if anyone can tell me something about.

Can it be true the IR filter?
Could it be better tan DX lasers? It´s much more expensive
How Can we measure out the real mw power? Better, where can we find any device to measure it?

usually you would want to tend to stay away from ebay sold lasers, this might be an exception. The IR filter is a big plus and with the key to disable the laser it looks like it passes FDA regulations for lasers here in the US. maybe some other people here can chime in....i only know so much

the green laser is just some cheap chinese laser, if you gona purchase it do it on dealextreme (the true 50mW is the best for me), the 200mW one, well if you want a good 200mW for 200$ go on but for the price difference is not worthy.

If you want a good greenie, the true 50 from dx
if u wanna burn, the dilda is your option (search for "200mW red burn things"), also on dealextreme

Finally I bought that one. 179€, about 200$. I prefer this instead of DX, just for the IR filter. Maybe its a fake, let´s see.
How can I chek if de IR filter is true? Any try to prove it?

Another thing.
I have a goggles tha I bougth just to see better the red laser dot of a laser level. They are HILTI brand. This kind of goggle can protect me from IR?

The goggles you own might protect you from the IR rays but its not certain how well they are made. I suggest you buy a good pair of goggles that are aligned to protect from 532nm light. Also on the IR filter, the best way to know it has one is by taking it apart, it should look like a blueish square piece of glass

be carefull if you took it apart that far it may never go back togather correctly and may not work again been there done that :'(

The other way to see IR is to look at the laser output with a digital camera. Often, digital cameras, especially cheaper ones like webcams or cell phone cams, will "see" the IR and display the IR as a different color that you'll be able to see on the screen. Check to see if your camera can see IR by looking at a known IR source, like the remote controls for TV, stereo, DVD player, etc. If it can see the IR, then it should be able to see if there is any coming out of the laser as well.

I think this is the best way, because I don´t want to take anything apart, not yet.
Do I have to point directly to the camera lens to see the IR?

No, it should look like a faint bluish halo around the dot. It will be more obvious from a distance, because the IR diverges a lot faster than the green.

I have proved my green 50mw (just arrived yesterday) from ebay with a camera and I just can see the dot and a green halo around, not a bluish one. If I point directly to the camera it turns blind for the amount of light If I point to the wall I just see the dot and the green halo, but a very little halo. I have proved with a phone camera. I will prove whit a camcorder tonight.
Anyway, it´s amazing. It´s my first green laser and I can see the light one km away in an iluminate building. Have you tried to point a traffic signal.....? It´s incredible, the light bounce over and blinded me.

I probably read this wrong, but that's not good at all. :eek:
These things will cause permanent eye damage if you take a hit in the eye-from a mirror, a reflection, or a direct hit.
