What 150mW green to buy?

Hi,

I'm new here. Learning about lasers :) Planning to buy a 150mW green from o-like. So I asked Susie about divergence of their lasers, as I'm interested in a very bright tight beam, not burning. And she said "It is not possible to have infinite focus now". The question was about the "150mW pocket green laser" and "New Style focusable blu-ray pen 150mW". I wonder what that means?

I'm now thinking maybe I should rather buy from Rayfoss? As Faona told me that despite the fact that their lasers are adjusted for burning, as that's what most customers want from 150mW, they can tune it for better divergence. Here is a quote: "If you prefer a tight beam dot we can use long focus tech in design".

Can't choose between o-like and Rayfoss
So far I gleaned this info from this forum about them:

O-like:
+ very good quality of diodes
+ better divergence than Rayfoss (but confusing reply from Susie, and encouraging one from Faona)

Rayfoss:
+ 3 nice looking robust hosts to choose from
+ waterproof hosts
+ quality of diodes is also very good, but they say o-like's is slightly better
+ uses CR123 (a plus for me, as I already have batteries and a charger)

But Rayfoss makes inconsistent claims about divergence on their website: "Spot Diameters at 10 meter <18mm, Beam Radiation Angle: 1.5-2.5mrad".
Using this calculator, I found that if beam's diameter is just 1mm at aperture, and 18mm at 10 meters away, the divergence is 1.7mRad. So Rayfoss should claim 1.5-1.7mRad divergence for their lasers, not 1.5-2.5mRad. I wonder if they will really fine tune it for me
Faona also said "For 150mw or 200mW green laser the CR123 battery can last 2 hours aound", but here I read it's 40min at best. Anyways, that only confirms one CR123 is a better choice than one CR2.

Would love to hear your comments!

BTW, this forum is an amazing source of information! :thanks:

EDIT: found a similar post, where lasersbee and matrixcs suggest both companies are good, hmm, still thinking...

I bought a O-like 150mW green, was overspec at 171mW's so that was great.

As for divergence, at the aperture it burns like a beast yet the divergence still comes in around 1.2mrad which is decent :)

I was happy with my purchase, and the somewhat vague reply from Susie maybe because her first language is not English :)

I wish all the best in your purchase!

I´m also new here - but reading alrady a little bit longer ;-)

I purchased a couple of days ago this 150mW green focusable. It came together with a 18650 battery and a charger - the googles (highly suggested to use for safety) were 5$ extra in the package. The comunication with Faona and Rayfoss was superB!

The quality of the torch is for my understanding very good - in focus position (focus wheel fully right turned), the burning spot is approximate 30-40 cm behind the aperture and burns e.g. matches immideately. I did not measured the divergence, but at night, the beam is very very visiable and well focused - it seems not ending in the sky, or getting much bigger after some miles. I like very much the function of the focus wheel - turning fully left, it is a great flash light - after 10 meters, the spot is around 10-15 cm in width, but also shines very bright estimated 1km into the sky - WHOW!

Faona mentioned a duty cycle of 60 sec/20 sec. To be honest - even after 60 sec. "ON" I did not recognize a real heating. I also did not notice until now any variation of the output light - pressing the button, the laser reaches immediately his max power (visable) and keeps it - different to my cheap tuned 1mw pen laser which really varies, depending to the temperature and/or fit of the batteries.

My experiance with Rayfoss was very good and I only can honor Faona. I do not take care if my laser torch is maybe 20% over- or under spec - I prefered the reliable shipment to Germany and always quick reaction by Faona - also when she shipped the wrong charger plug adapter (non EU), she reacted immediately.

I like this communitiy here and look forward for my new hobby and further discussions in this forum.

Best regards from Germany,

laeser

I would deffinately go with the o-like. I just got one less than a week ago and I love it. It got here to Texas in less than a week which was awesome but it is a great burner. I haven't tested or measured the divergence yet but it seems to be pretty damn good. I can easily light a match from about 2 feet away in about 2 seconds. It's very stable and although I don't have any way to measure the output, it is more than twice as bright as my phoenix 75mW from wicked that's a few years old.

Anyway I would go with o-like. Stable, powerfull, good divergence, and a very nice price LOL. Deffinately a good purchase that I'm going to enjoy for quite a while LOL

Although, reading threads here I got a feeling o-like's modules are often better and last longer. I think, I'll give Rayfoss a try. With some luck I may get a good laser the first time :yh: I really like their hosts and much prefer CR123 batteries over CR2. There are just 2-3 CR2 batteries on DX and dosens of CR123s to choose from. I don't have any CR2s, nor charger for them. And no other gadgets that use them. Ordering o-like's module and rayfoss's host may be a good option, but I'll probably screw everything up :yh:

Thanks for your input everyone! :thanks:

Another good source for inexpensive CR123 or CR2 batteries is eBay...

Like I posted on another thread... both O-Like and Rayfoss offer
exceptional customer service...

I've dealt with both and would not hesitate to order from either of
them again..

O-like. If you look around some more, you will se many negative reviews of Rayfoss lasers. Many of them break.

umm no.

NO WAY thats true.

I have 3 150mw Green lasers, 2 with friends, and they are all working PERFECTLY. No problems, nothing.

And the host is sooo awesome.

Rayfoss FTW, I even got a discount becuase I asked :D .

HanMan5000,

I only can confirm - posts are also saying - if there is a problem, you get helped and Faona is reacting quickly,

Wow! Just saw this host from Ehgemus and absolutely love it!

All aluminum, nice looking, uses CR123 battery and easy to assemble. Good thing I haven't got a reply from Faona yet because of weekend and kept looking. This host and o-like's module would make an equilibrium, I think. Already emailed to Ehgemus :)

I was in the same position as you but finally decided on the O-Like 150mW green laser. It will be my first decent laser so I'm really looking forward to how it looks.

Just purchased it today.

dmorgan,

Would be interested to see a review once you get it.
I wonder what module it uses? If it's the same one they have for sale at $97, I might just order it as well. It's only $3 bucks extra and I will have something to play with while I wait for the Ehgemus to manufacture the host. Then I will just swap hosts.

EDIT: Nope, the module is different.
