In my local bowling ally there is a room called the vault, it has lasers shooting across a dark room and you have to get to the other side of the room as fast as possible without disrupting the lasers, like in all of the spy movies. The lasers are green and i was wondering if i could bring my 5 mW green and fix it on the sensors to cheat and get across the room. I would probably have to have exact aim though. What do you guys think about this idea?

probably won't work, but if you don't fear them watching you cheat go for it.

Also, welcome to the forum!

Yeah, i don't think they would really care. Besides i could probably get past the lasers faster than doing this. It was just a thought, i will definitely try it though to see what will happen. Thanks, i am glad to be here!

Best thing to do here is to measure the laser beam's distance precisely and learn some salsa while you're at it..

They'd probably just be using LDR's for cheapness so they would probably respond to green best but blue or red may also work. You would probably have to point it fairly accurately.

Of course the "real" laser curtains for security use IR beams. There was one site we sold to another company who installed video surveillance and an IR laser curtain around it. If not for the video camera I would have been tempted to try and do a "Mission Impossible" to see if it was actually impenetrable using my night vision gear to see the beams

If you REALLY wanted to cheat. Get a high powered green, unfocus it. Then you have a large area for the dot to hit and not have to worry about perfect aiming. Dont know if it'd work but i suppose if you're gonna cheat you wanna do it right :)?

No i am not really focused on cheating, i just wondered if it would work. Besides i could worm my way through them faster than having to cheat. Yeah a powerful green would probably work, but i doubt that they would have anything more powerful than 15mW, so it may not be necessary. I can't wait to try it though!

You could try but it would be really hard, to keep the laser dot on the sensor while moving. mythbusters did this, they had to use tripods and all sorts to get the beam accurate, and you have to shine it in at a 90 degree angle to the wall, you cant do it form the side, it would have to be from where the original laser is coming from, it would be too difficult to be a effective method

I have brought mirrors into those vault games and they don't work. I tried to figure out why when I noticed that you could 'break' a beam without touching them. So I took a closer look at the system they had and it turned out to just be a ton of cheap motion sensors. The best way to cheat is to get one of your buddies to run to the other side of the vault before you start and just have them press the button after you start the game.
