vote for more powerful fasttech modules!

The resistor mod would be easy enough. Let's see what happens when they arrive and I can look them over, and do some testing on them.
Interested in seeing if they still have a pot on the other side. I've yet to get one that wasn't set at max output although that's not exactly true as I didn't mess with the over
80mw ones.
Annoying that the pots are so sensitive. I've only tested the current draw on a couple and if I remember correctly, they are around 300ma.
I've also messed with raising the voltage and found that regular alkalines give the best output. Extra voltage seems to get wasted and the output actually drops on a couple lithiums or a single 10440 on some of them. Was surprised that the single AAA pens also prefer a single alkaline but I didn't graph them out or run with IR filter yet.
The battery/voltage test is something I do on all the pens/modules I have. In most cases it's not worth using lithiums on cheapo pens. The better quality the pen (or most better units), the more output you get with a higher quality, higher voltage battery that can sustain current draw. Try a pair of lithiums and then a single 10440 in a Sky pen and you will see a serious jump in output over regular alkalines. Too bad you can't get AW IMR or Panasonic cells in a 10440 Of course you can just test for the sweet spot with a variable DC power supply (highly recommended).
Also curiosity got the better of me and I ordered a few of the 5V 532nm modules to mess with. Interesting that the 5V modules show the same resistor as the 50mw ones IF the pics are correct.
Hoping to see some new things show up all of a sudden on their site. Sure hope they didn't just pull all the 50mw modules and send them off to be binned!

You should do some testing on the violet ones as well Keep us updated with the testing as well. Very interested to see the results

I did order one of those 5mw 405nm modules to test but all of this is going to take at least a couple weeks to get to me. Not real interested in it as I have so many 405 pens that are over 75mw as it is.
Having some high hopes for the 532nm 5mw ones as they show current draw as 250ma (same as the 405 module) on the site. 250ma would seem consistent with a 50mw output. We shall see. There is a BIG difference between a 50mw output with 10% IR vs. a cheap pen that peaks at 75mw but is 40% IR and of course the modules have a more consistent output and likely much better duty cycle.
I will post some pics later of what I put a couple of those modules in. Just trying to decide where to post them. Seem to always find myself torn between where to post certain info or pics without overstepping the bounds of a thread.
Think I'm going to throw them in the Mini-review 50mw green module thread. The 101mw module I stuck in a working flashlight (never used the light anyways) is definately worth posting. Very interesting host.

IIRC all of the modules said they drew 250mA. I think they couldn't be bothered to change how many mAs each power drew.

Any update on the ordered 532nm Modules? Or the situation with Fasttech?

Update bump, so am I reading it correctly the 5mw violet is actually alot higher?

Pman bought one and tested it at 87mW without messing with the pot. Sucks that we couldn't get higher powered ones because they were made to rename them. Some may argue that they can still label the higher powered one (if they got them) 5mW. But seriously, who would by a claimed 5mW laser module if it was ~20 bucks. We are not the only ones who buy laser modules.

One thing I have always noticed is when the laser says military in the title it is usually high powered I. Asked What is the real power of this laser to a member on eBay selling a 5mw 405 and. He said 200mw And it lights matches

Doesn't actually take much power to light a match (especially a black headed/colored) one. Does take some power to light a match the same color as the laser. I can light a red headed match with the red (650nm) laser I made in my pen tutorial that is 128mw. Much harder to light a match with a 532nm (green) laser for multiple reasons including instability of a cheap one. I have made a few $5 532nm pens focusable but I pretty much don't bother anymore.
