I just received my little craptastic 1mW ebay laser. Basically the cheapest thing I could find. I wanted a laughable comparison between that and a more costly "high quality" laser. I was totally shocked to be able to clearly see the beam on this $3.00 pointer. Although my v75 nearly drown it out when side by side... I am almost convinced that the ebay pointer might have its power under-advertised! I will try to post some beam shots for a visual comparison.

tl;dr

I bought a $3.00 pointer and had impressive results with it.

Well, the 1 or 5 mW rated ones are often overspec... obviously less such luck as the advertised power goes up.

Haha first time I have heard of someone being angry about an overspec laser.. well as previously stated, low spec cheap lasers are often overspec.
One of my friends has a "5mW" from DX which has a 48mW peak.. insane. I have heard of even higher AVERAGES from a 5mW on this forum. That's one of the reasons you have to be careful with all lasers.

I remember reading a thread where a 20mw dx pointer was actually putting out over 100mW's. just be careful, because it's probably putting out quite a bit of IR light that could do some serious damage.

I am only angry about it because I was trying to use it as an example for my "less laser savy" girlfriend. When I threw in the 1.4v alk AAA's and it shot a beam across my living room she said "I thought that was a bad one?". I had no response. I guess if I can find someone in the states (or local) I might try to mail it off and get it rated :D

Or, if you need it back faster (I'm here in WI) It might save a few days round-trip having me test it, which I would gladly offer to do ...

I would definitely consider that! I don't really need an addy at the moment to get shipping costs because i would just flat rate it out, but if you want to PM me I will get back to you by Friday. I would love to have this thing mailed off by monday and see what she really puts out. Thanks!
