Hi there!
I want to buy a new laserpoint after my old one broke.

Hightech-Laserpointer mit grünem Festkörper-Laser: Amazon.de: Elektronik

I was happy with it but i´m looking for a much stronger one!

I saw the "Viper Series 55mW Green Laser Pointer" and the "Viper Series 75mW Green Laser Pointer" from dragonlasers. Do you think they are a good choice? How big is teh difference between them? Are there maybe better one in this price category?

Please help me :can:

Definitely not a good choice. Dragonlasers isn't the best place to buy a low power pen. Go ledshoppe.com and buy their 50mW pointer for about 20$. Same performance and excelent price. If after this you still want a higher power, then go to rayfoss.com or O-like.com

And no, there's not a big diffference between 50 and 70 mW.

I haven´t said that i´m looking for a low power laser pointer. I want a good instrument for a long time, not a low budget product which breaks up in 2 months like my last one. The second thing is, that i´m from austria, so i don´t want to buy a pointer where the shipping costs are higher than the pointer itself. Furthermore i need laser glasses.
So which laserpointer is as good (or better) as the 50,75 mw (or better) of the viper series for under 160$? Condition: It must run with AAA batteries.

who said ledshope, rayfoss and O-like pointers are breaking in 2 months? Dragonlasers ate your head!

I own a 200mW green pointer from rayfoss.com and after some months it still works like the first day, and it's only 150mW!

Albert

Most of the time a cheaper laser means that there is no IR filter. There is a lot of controversy and arguing in these forums regarding whether or not this is a terrible thing. In my opinion, and -if I may speak for Hallucynogenyc- his too (if memory serves), the absence of an IR filter is really no big deal. It does increase the danger of a direct hit in the eyes, but the glasses will alleviate that problem.

These cheap lasers for the most part do not sacrifice build quality, and should last well over 2 months.

You said you want a more powerful laser. I'm not sure if you're looking for burning power or brightness. I'm not sure of a good choice as far as green burning lasers go, but I can recommend an excellent "Beam Laser."

The Ledshoppe 50mW, SEEN HERE, is a terrific laser with a beam that will amaze you. It is cheap, but it performs very well. Better yet, shipping is free to all countries. I believe this is the laser you are looking for. Best of luck to ya. :)

Another concern when buying a filtered vs. unfiltered laser is the accuracy of the power reading.
A pen that leaks IR will have a skewed power measurement. While the total output may be 50mW, the true green output may only be 30-40mW.

The CNI pens sold at Dragonlasers, and Novalasers are far superior to the cheapie generic pens.
The Ledshoppe pens are great for their price, but the difference in quality is immediately apparent if comparing the two side by side.
With Nova or Dragonlasers, you are guaranteed to get the power you paid for, if not more.
A couple years ago I purchased an X105 from Nova. They included a free diffraction grating and the laser output 118mW avg. and 120mW peak. If I were to invest in another pen style laser, I wouldn't hesitate to buy from a CNI distributor.

One more thing to consider is beam quality. CNI pens have a thin beam at aperture and good divergence. The mode is usually a clean TEM00. The optics in CNI pens are coated glass, rather than plastic, so they are more difficult to damage and result in higher power. If the lens gets dirty, the aperture cap is removable to make for easy cleaning.

If you are looking for safety goggles, Dragonlasers has some pretty good ones. Also, focalprice.com sells some cheap ($8) goggles that work well.

If you want something that will last a long time, go with DL or Nova.
Also, Novalasers offers a 5% discount when you use the code WARP5 at checkout.

i´ve already bought the o-like 200mw transformable green laser. hope it was a good choice and the mw haven´t blended me! lateron (when i´ve money and still like laserpointers) i go for dragonlasers or this nova products. but i can´t believe that lasers like the hulk justify their high price, not in my opinion ;)

30 posts and already answering it better than I would have done it. +1!

I only have one correction to your answer. The IR filter is just one of the excuses this sites are giving to justify their prices. The only differences MIGHT be the stability on the power (who cares about it on a pen pointer) and the design. Why that price then? Well, why a D&G shirt costs what it costs?

I say this because by saying that the only difference is the IR filter, it's like if you were saying the IR filter is worth the price difference, while it's worth 1$ (or less).

Thank you very much! And thanks for mentioning stability. That's another pretty big difference between the cheap lasers and the expensive ones.

If you are just starting in on your laser hobby, & have intentions of buying many lasers of different wavelengths (colors) & power out-puts, then you'll need eye protection for all the different wavelengths of lasers you buy. If you can afford them, my advice is the Model# ML-7 by OEM LASER SYSTEMS. There is a pair for sale or trade right now in the BS&T section of the Forum. This one set of goggles & your covered for just about ANY color laser you buy, IR included. See my signature, I own a set myself. THE BEST laser accessory you can have..................rob
PS, They aren't cheap, but neither is your eyesight, or the convenience of not having to have to change goggles when changing laser colors !!!!!!!!!

It does increase the danger of a direct hit in the eyes, but the glasses will alleviate that problem.

Don't assume that goggles rated for 532nm will block 1064 or 808.

When using high power lasers without IR filters, you must use goggles rated and certified for both the green and IR emission lines.
