last night I tried, and this superbeast - with the pot turned up about an eighth of a turn - burned thru a thin plastic bag in about a second or so...

love this laser!

For the price this laser doesn't disappoint!

took my 100 outside last night and discovered that it *does* work.. some of the time.

most of the time it has no visible beam and creates a dot that can be seen say 100' away. about 30% of the time, however, it works properly, creating a beam that is visible for several miles, judging by the mountains.

i was not able to ascertain the variable - performance was not dependent on heat, or switch contact. thumping *seemed* to help (haha) but really, having pot modded it and finding this didn't seem to have any productive effect, i am at a loss to explain how to make it function reliably.

battery is as provided, with light use and usage over time hasn't affected the performance ratio. sometimes you press button, light go far :)

Sounds like you have a bad connection on the board or even the contact spring(s).
Is there any way you can open it up enough to see/resolder any poor welds?

I cant decide between the newwish style:

Super Power #90-105 Green Laser Pointer Visible W/Box - eBay (item 120679490168 end time Apr-02-11 13:14:55 PDT)

and the new AA style he has:

2011 Adjustable 2in1 Green Laser Pointer 85-105# Burn - eBay (item 110649912925 end time Apr-16-11 22:43:05 PDT)

Which do you guys think will output more power?

I have $50 bucks and want something that will at least garentee 100mw. I like pen styles the best.

I bought the beast 100 a few weeks ago and am happy with it, but I also bought three of the 5mw cheapies for seven eighty two with free shipping that look just like the super power laser one you found for twenty.

I noticed the drivers are exactly the same as in the beast 100 so i pot modded them and they are just as bright if not brighter then the beast 100. I dont run them more the twenty seconds on because of minimal heat sinkage. the first one i did over a week ago works just fine and i have no reason to doubt the others will also last. Btw the diodes look the same as in the beast 100 also. They pop ballons and will burn a hole through slightly stretched electrical tape i havent tryed matches yet. I am using energizer rechargeable AAA batteries in them.

I have seen alot people dont approve of pot modding here but as a begginer in the US Its the best i can do until I know enough to build a good laser the right way so far i have been lucky and not fried any but that may be cause i did some research and found one type of cheapie laser that mods successfully.

Also a note of safety. These cheap lasers that can be turned up can be very dangerous. As far as I can tell they have no ir filter and i wouldnt recomend any indoor use without protective eyeware. IR light is invisable to our eyes yet can blind you or at the very least cause permanant damage to your eyes. Even reflection off a white wall can harm your eyes.

I can't speak for the pens linked above but the cheap $7 greens he sells are worth abut 7 bucks. (FWIW the 405 BR pen I bought from him is great. Nice and stable at 45mw) They're your typical cheap green pen. I can't complain too much since mine measured in at about 24mw including IR. (I forgot to filter it then remeasure) The one I have does mode hops like mad. The SB #6 he sells for about $13 is much better. I have noticed from a cold start the beam can be weak and barely visible but if you either run it for a 30 second cycle or two or just warm the whole thing up in your hand a for a minute or so it'll come up to full power and stay nice and stable.

Now the #150 I got is a pretty sweet laser. It is a touch underspec at 135-140mw but I can deal with that. The focus ability is nice but a bit touchy at times. Overall his stuff is pretty damned good and people here who have had issues with their lasers have got good service from him.

Like LtKernelPanic said.. def try out his 405nm pens. I did the focus and single cell mod on one of mine and it's my favorite laser.

I jsut got my #100 green pen today. I must say, I'm a bit disappointed. Its different than the one posted in the review section. The sticker is different and the silver tip of the laser is very short compared to the long one. The power is equivalent to that of my 30mw green pen. The beam on the laser is very thick coming from the aperature an it has great divigerence.

Can you post a link to the laser in question?

Ok, I just sent a message to the seller explaining that I really would like to write a nice positive review of his product. I explained that in the products current state doing so would be impossible, I then asked for the possibility of an exchange.

He should take care of you.. just give him a few days to respond to the email. BTW, on mine, I had to extend the negative battery spring out a little bit because it wasn't making a good connection when I got it. It made a HUGE difference! Good luck!

He has agreed to allow me to send mine back for a replacement. Pretty good customer service here. I hope for the best with my replacement.
