They tend to warm up within a few mins of being indoors. If you try too soon it just has an IR dot or very weak green, kinda cool to watch it get brighter and brighter as it warms up.

heh yeah but that was my excuse to force myself not to yank the battery before it was charged.

Using one of the 3.6v "Juice" batteries that was charged to 4.14v my #150 topped out at 140mw which kinda stinks as I was hoping for it to be a little north of 150. I am going try one of the AWs from my 445 later and see what they do.

A couple quick observations:

pros:

- Nice beefy host
- key switch is a nice safety feature
- Tight beam!
- Focusable
- Only measured 15mw of IR! (passed the beam through my glasses rated at OD3+ for 532nm which should only allow .015mw of 532 through.)

cons:

- Key can be removed in the on position which negates its purpose. It also lacks an "armed" indicator and shutter so it's not FDA complaint but it never claimed to be.

- focusing ring isn't the best but works.

Overall I'm happy with this laser. I haven't tried torching anything yet. Oh one cool thing I noticed. I took the head off without he focusing lens to test if that's why it came in a bit under 150 and noticed you could see the crystals. On a hunch I grabbed my laser glasses and fired it up. Sure enough you could see a nice red line where the IR's path was in the crystals.

Watch it with using your 532 glasses to measure IR, cause the laser will melt a hole in the damn things.

Hey, I just got a note from IQS stating that an LPF member sent them an email stating that they had reported them to eBay and the FDA. They stated that they bought and forwarded one unopened to a specific person at the FDA. They go on to say that "these are illegal for a reason, and people will blind themselves", and conclude "I hope the throw the book at you".

This could have sad results for buying inexpensive high-quality lasers from IQS ...

The content of the email looks very like the wording I have seen on another purposred complaint. Thing is, this LPF user created their account 11-13-2007, posted 2 messages from there to 11/14/2007, and has not logged back on since (one of the two was "looking for something ti light fireworks from 15-20 feet").

They claim to have sent a sample to a specific person at the FDA, but even claiming it is "forwarded unopened" does not make it admissible evidence since there is no proof that they did not tamper with it. Although, I doubt that it really matters if it gets actual attention ...

If the FDA was interested / concerned, they'd just order their own from IQS. My money says it's one of IQS's competitors.

Bummer though - I was just getting ready to order a #200 - hope this doesn't scare them off of exporting a laser to Canada :(

Wow. Thats sucks, FDA wont care, Ebay will care, however. I'm with rhd, sounds like a competitor.

I agree -- but the email came from a LPF member (I will PM you if you want details), which sucks even worse!

So what, they spoofed the email address?

Perhaps - but I was actually suggesting that a competitor may have spoofed the email to IQS, just to get them to pull back a bit.

Oh, I agree on the who -- but it bugs me that they claimed to be an LPF member ...

I suspect the email he got is fake but if we see his auctions pulled in the next few days we'll know.

Arshus-

That's a possibility which is why I made sure the focal point of the beam wasn't near the lens and I kept it moving so it wasn't in the same place for more than a fraction of a second. I'd be a wee bit pissed if I burnt a $90 pair of glasses.

You did better than me, I did burn a small dot, not a hole but a little indentation about a mm diameter on one pair, luckily it was towards the top so the goggles are fine but I'm afraid to point my O-like 500mW green at my goggles lol.

EDIT: I just got a response from IQS...and apprently it DID turn out to be a seller..I dont wanna post his whole e-mail to me online but basically:
some other sellers send us threaten letters

Yeah, I showed him how to get the full email headers so he could verify that the email was spoofed ... ;)

I now have a backup seller ID for IQS; he asked that I share only with PM, so PM me and I will share.

I just got a note from IQS that he has 9 "#55-70" pointers in a different host (still CR123A battery though). He says he will sell then to LPF members for $18. If you are interested, PM me and I will send you the link/seller ID.
