Re: Spyder 3 Krypton - 1W of green power from WL

But what if it really puts out 1W of green?

In terms of sheer power, the SL 1.2W I own is plenty, but green is so tempting... So tempting...

Ordering from wicked lasers is kind of like ordering a mail order bride, you MIGHT eventually get something, but there is now way it is gonna be anything like what you saw in the catalog...and their both equally hard to return..

wicked lasers produce great lasers, don't get me wrong, but they just have horrible customer support and their products are freakin expensive. If you really want an average laser for a premium price from people who don't give a sh** about you, go with WickedLasers, I'm not stopping you. I'm just saying that I had the most horrible experience with them

LMFAO!!!

Was only a matter of time until they tried it. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the "spec" unit will be ~300mW of green at best:banghead:

Who knows how much of that will be IR.

Laserglow, cni, and jetlasers, etc, aren't putting out 1W models as far as I'm aware... there is absolutely no way this laser will be even close to spec.

Everything they did in that video can be done with ~300mW or so. Beam diameter looks pretty bad too.

Unfortunately to anyone who's never seen a 300-400mW or higher green, it will look amazing, and the target audience is the same one that got the arctic to begin with:undecided:

Is cool laser.
Same like Arctic.

That does not look like 1W of green. To be honest it looks like one of the 100mw units I used to have. 1W of green would drown out 1W of blue. You would be lucky to see a faint trace of blue.

Trust me ;)

Thanks,

Re: Spyder 3 Krypton - 1W of green power from WL

if that's an actual beamshot, then I am no longer interested. If it were $200 for 0.7W, though, that would be sweet.

Perhaps when the actual order site comes up it will say that it's 1W* of green

This is not 1W model.

Simple 150mW laser.

Re: Spyder 3 Krypton - 1W of green power from WL

I just want to point out a few things:

WickedLasers now advertises all their lasers by the max and min power. The "300mW" E3, for example, is "150-300mW." The 1W Spyder will likely be "500-1000mW." That leaves a big, ambiguous, 500mW hole that you can fill with your hopes and dreams.

Secondly, 1W peak portable 532nm lasers are not impossible to make. Sustaining that power is the hard part.
When WL first introduced their 2010 series lasers, they had for sale a 400mW Spyder III. A few members here received some units to review and one peaked in the 700s.
On top of that, long ago I owned a 400mW PGL-III-C from CNI that peaked in the 800s and sustained >650mW, so I know it is possible to produce absurdly powerful portable DPSS greenies today. My guess is that CNI will be the primary manufacturer of the modules that WL uses. The most likely scenario I foresee is that WL asks CNI to manufacture a batch of >500mW modules, in which case anyone who buys the 1W 532nm Spyder should expect a >500mW laser, not a >1W laser. But that is just speculation.

Which brings me to my last point - maybe they will make a great laser, maybe they won't. Until something is actually produced, there is not really any point discussing what we think it might be.

Re: Spyder 3 Krypton - 1W of green power from WL

another thing, how come there are no 532 in arctic "clone" hosts yet?
theres 445 (riffle445)
a 650 (red from focalprice?)
i would love a green in the "mini arctic" host :D
and DAMN, i think WL should win every marketing award :/ (other than the honest award) (which goes to lazerer :))

Yeah.... they should really get an award alright....
But it can't be printed on a public Forum....:gun:

The Arctic fiasco is still fresh in my memory.
If only their quality control was as good as their marketing savy...

Actually that's the one area where the original arctic did very well imho. They thermal paste into those hosts literally by the bucket. The insides of this krypton will probably be just as messy.
