Should i buy the Spartan or the Hulk laser? (both 150mw)

Hi, I'm thinking about buying a 150mW green laser.
Would 150mw be enough? How long the beam would be visible?
I thought about the Spartan or the Hulk from Dragonlasers.
I don't know which one I should buy. Which one is better?
It should have a very good visible beam. For the Spartan I could use the beam expander they're selling.
Which one I should buy?

I'm not from USA or UK so sorry for my bad english.

Cheers MrMcChicken

Forgive me if I'm wrong but it sounds as though you are new to the hobby. If this is true perhaps you should consider something smaller. Also, I didn't see that you mentioned anything about safety goggles. Goggles are a must! But, if you have your heart set on one of those two units, either should be great. Both are made by CNI which are known to be over-spec.

I would buy of course a pair safety goggles too.
This wouldn't be my first laser, I have a 5mW laser and a Blu-Ray laser too.

So ... it depends on you !

If you want a burning laser:

Take the Hulk ... it has a smaller beam diameter , but it is less visible as the spartan... it also has a lens shutter... this is great for carrying the laser in your pocket and it will keep of the dust when its closed
It uses 2x C Size batteries.... they are easy to find :yh:
Also the Hulk has a perfect heatsink ... better than spartan

If you want a visible laser:

Take the Spartan.. it has a big beam diameter = more visible than the hulk
It uses a 18650 Battery... It has an attractive design.. but the heatsink is not so good as the hulk´s heatsink

BUT: The Spartan has the beam expander which can focus the beam
With this , the spartan has a focal point ... good for burning

The only difference I see is

Hulk: -Lens Shutter , Uses C Size Batteries , good heatsinking , small beam diameter
Spartan: Beam expander , Uses 18650 Batteries , bad heatsinking , bigger beam diameter (without BE)

Its your choice

I think I should buy the Spartan, with the beam expender. Has it got a bigger beam visibility with the beam expeder? How long I could see the beam?

The Spartan has also a good visibility without the BE..

With BE it is massiv :D

"How long could I see the beam ?"

The Range depends on the mw

150mw goes .... 4-5 kilometers (Beam!)

P.S: Beam expander is sold out !!!!!!

Wow, that's a grat distance :D.
Will there come new beam expender in future?
It has got a beam divergence of 1.2 mRad, would the beam be 4.8 meters big after 4 kilometers?

Yes, a new BE will come in 1-2 monts ... it will be for all spartans <3

yes it would be 4.8m big without BE

Max mRad = 33 , Min mRad = 0,2

here is a video of the beam expander:

Here you see the spartans divergance with the BE

Seems that there aint chager with Spartan. I dislike that companies dont always tell directly about charger (like Optotronics)

This is for the Spartan:

Yes , but its clear that you should use a 18650 battery and this battery has to be 3.7 V ...

Just google.... 3.7V 18650 battery + charger

or order it from dragonlasers: http://www.dragonlasers.com/catalog/18650-Batteries-and-Charger-p-16203.html

or these batteries+charger: http://www.batteryjunction.com/wf139-18500-combo.html

Ohh, and i see i already answered you on youtube !! xDDD

Hi, which Laser is better?
The 150mw Hulk or the 150mw Spartan both green.
Which one has a better beam visibility? Which one would you reccomend?

@MrMcChicken123
I think the spartan is good for visibility and the hulk is good for burning

I would just get this: Optotronics Product Details

Same power but smaller and a lot cheaper. Ofcourse the Spartan or Hulk host looks cool, but its not worth the cash imo just for a nice looking host :)

Something you could also do is wait till this laser: 400mW green laser torch /focusable/waterproof [OL-532-350] - $208.00 : Welcome to O-Like.com, Your source for laser products comes back on stock people have been getting 500-600mW constant output from those beasts and even if some of that light (lets say 100mW is infared) there's still plenty of green too.

EDIT: Here's one review: http://laserpointerforums.com/f52/o-like-400mw-532nm-very-overspec-60413.html

And whats the duty cycle of this o-like laser

Heatsinking is very important for me , cause i will also get a green laser for Xmas

But I think i go with the hulk , cause it has a large heatsink , it is good for continous use

The o-like laser should have decent heatsinking, but ofcourse the hulk's heatsinking would be better. What kind of a duty cycle are you looking for?

If you want a very high quality laser with excellent duty cycle get an RPL from Optotronics they are probably the best handheld lasers available atm. (link)

BTW, the Hulk 150 and 200mW seem to be out of stock :)

Ahhh , I am too late :banghead:
No matter , I dont have to get the hulk

The RPL is nice
But, the price is OMG...:undecided:

i think i go with the O-like ... cause everything is too expensive

How long is the duty cycle of the o-like 400mw ?

Well for me atleast it would be good enough :) You can probably keep it on for atleast a couple of minutes. You should ask someone who actually owns the laser, like arshus :)
