Well, as a good brainwashed lasermaniac at the last stage, I wish to upgrade my "old" Hercules 550 to buy a 650 new one.
But before selling it, I wish to be full honest and say that it has some minor issues.
First, the squeaky and rought tail cap issue happened some days ago was very well solved with a fantastic product
called CRC 5-56, so now the tail cap twist smootly and silent best than a new one!
The second issue is the open shutter: is faulty.
If You rotate the ring, the guillotine open, then close and then open again.
Probably the guillotine is jumped out of the gears, and need to be manually placed in the right one.
For this operation, there are three screws to untwist to access to the shutter mechanism.
I tried to remove it, but I was not able to extract the shutter, so I preferred to leave everything as is.
The third issue in very questionable:
Turning ON the laser, it shows the classical cold DPSS issues: instability, flickers, multiple TEM modes, and so on;
After one minute, and for the first 4 minutes, the beam goes solid and the DOT perfect rounded;
After 4 minutes the beam goes double: I can see a first beam and a second small weak beam;
After 8 minutes (from the first ON) the beam become solid again and the DOT become TEM00;
After 16 minutes (from the first ON) the beam splits again in two almost identical beams (TEM01)
From now and for the next 16 minutes the beam rest splitted, but as times passes, the beam goes progressively unique.
Finally, after 32 minutes (from the first ON), and this time forever, the beam rest solid at TEM00.
This experiment was made with 10x beam expander, that amplify a lot the issue, and in presence of a very fussy person
Without any beam expander, the issue is visible only a great distance.
I cannot say if this happen in all the Hercules models, but for sure Laserglow check very well its lasers before send it.
On the other hand, I have seen the same hopping mode in the Smeerworst Hercules 650 video, so I can assume that it is a
"feature" of the Hercules diode.
The item has no more than 10 hours of total working, and was bought less than 5 months ago.
It was always well placed over my desk in a elegant Laserglow tripod, protected from dust by a transparent acetate sheet
wrapped around, and never has received shocks, hits or injuries.
Here is a lot of interesting shots for You:
The final price for You is $1300, including suitcase and delivery. VISA accepted only.
