Well, as a good brainwashed lasermaniac at the last stage, I wish to upgrade my "old" Hercules 550 to buy a 650 new one.
But before selling it, I wish to be full honest and say that it has some minor issues.
First, the squeaky and rought tail cap issue happened some days ago was very well solved with a fantastic product
called CRC 5-56, so now the tail cap twist smootly and silent best than a new one!
The second issue is the open shutter: is faulty.
If You rotate the ring, the guillotine open, then close and then open again.
Probably the guillotine is jumped out of the gears, and need to be manually placed in the right one.
For this operation, there are three screws to untwist to access to the shutter mechanism.
I tried to remove it, but I was not able to extract the shutter, so I preferred to leave everything as is.
The third issue in very questionable:

Turning ON the laser, it shows the classical cold DPSS issues: instability, flickers, multiple TEM modes, and so on;
After one minute, and for the first 4 minutes, the beam goes solid and the DOT perfect rounded;
After 4 minutes the beam goes double: I can see a first beam and a second small weak beam;
After 8 minutes (from the first ON) the beam become solid again and the DOT become TEM00;
After 16 minutes (from the first ON) the beam splits again in two almost identical beams (TEM01)
From now and for the next 16 minutes the beam rest splitted, but as times passes, the beam goes progressively unique.
Finally, after 32 minutes (from the first ON), and this time forever, the beam rest solid at TEM00.

This experiment was made with 10x beam expander, that amplify a lot the issue, and in presence of a very fussy person ;)
Without any beam expander, the issue is visible only a great distance.
I cannot say if this happen in all the Hercules models, but for sure Laserglow check very well its lasers before send it.
On the other hand, I have seen the same hopping mode in the Smeerworst Hercules 650 video, so I can assume that it is a
"feature" of the Hercules diode.

The item has no more than 10 hours of total working, and was bought less than 5 months ago.
It was always well placed over my desk in a elegant Laserglow tripod, protected from dust by a transparent acetate sheet
wrapped around, and never has received shocks, hits or injuries.
Here is a lot of interesting shots for You:

The final price for You is $1300, including suitcase and delivery. VISA accepted only.

Re: Selling my Hercules 550!

Yes, You have missed something ;)
The actual price of an Herc 550 is $2189, so I sell it at 689 dollars less that the original price. Besides that, You must consider the free delivery costs (expedite shipping with insurance, no less than 100 dollars) and the paypal fees (I must pay 4% of the transaction, so I surely miss other 60 dollars). The buyer may save about 849 dollars for that "minor issues" ...

Re: Selling my Hercules 550!

Thank you for being honest about the issues.

For a Herc thats probably a good deal. It has less stability issues than a typical Kryton.

Re: Selling my Hercules 550!

Yeah it is refreshing to see a laser represented as what it is and not the usual "perfect in every way" sales pitch that we see all too often here.
@TJ, that would be the Krypton not Kryton.

Well .. in a specialized laboratory I have solved the shutter issue, and now is working again! For the rest, the multimode issue is not a faulty of mine. It seems that all the Hercules models (but also all the portable DPSS green lasers) has sometimes multimode issues, that disappeared when the module reach a good working temperature and become very stable. I have lowered the original price too: now is *really* a good affair for a monster like this!
Please remind that I live in Italy, so if You are an italian customer You are a very lucky guy :D
