Hey guys, I am building a custom laser sight for a friends new AR-15. I decided on 532 nm for visibility and power consumption purposes. But I'm not really sure how much output i should aim for. I'm thinking around... 100mw? Also, he would like to have a bright LED in it as well, does anyone know of a host that will allow that, while remaining light weight?

I would recommend blue or red for stability. Greens are very complex and have a habit of doing very strange things when their internals become misaligned, like dimming, brightening, changing shape, or just straight up not spitting out green photons.

Diode lasers like red and blue may become misaligned relative to the lens, but that just means you have to adjust the gun mount a little bit.

445nm is very bad for divergence of the beam and targeting, so that will go out the window unless you use a single mode blue but they are 3.8mm and we don't have modules for them yet.

Although 532nm's have those issues you spelled out, they are the brightest wavelength on the market, their divergence isn't bad either.

660nm isnt as bright but has great divergence!

Looking for a sight for my AR as well, but probally save up $$ for laser devices ITAL, good luck. Safe shooting:gun:
