I'm fairly new to lasers,I've got a few 5 mw pointers but that's about it. a friend has been buying some from a company in China, after about 2 months of heavy use they usually died.I was wondering if it was a quality issue or just over use.
I've heard of Dragonlasers.com and Wickedlasers.com but I really dont know of any other reputable companies. mostly I'm looking for pointers around 300mw of various colors. I've seen several for about $60 but I wondered if they were any good when compared to wicked lasers of the same powers are a few hundred dollars. I would like to have a 250-300mw that could do some burning and experimenting. Also for a laser of this power are goggles required or just recommended? thanks for any info.

There are more than a few good companies out there. Usually buying from Wicked is a mistake. Use the search function on this forum or simply read through the review section. And as for your safety question, if you value being able to see, then yes, safety goggles/glasses are required.
