Well my boyfriend purchased a green laser, from online. He figured that, since the one he bought, & broke the first day, from Fry's electronics, was kinda cool..& it was only 5mW.. then I guess he figured the one he bought online, would be even better, since it was an 100mW laser.
Well he got it today. We put the batteries in.. turned out all the lights.. & tried the laser.. You can hardly see the beam.. its not really solid at all.. kinda choppy & stuff.. Very dissappointed...
He ordered a 100mW 532nm Mid-open Fixed Focus Green Laser Pointer Pen..
Can someone tell me what all that means... like what is mid-open, fixed focus, mean? & shouldnt the beam at least be nice & solid?

& one more question.. where can we get a laser that burns stuff.. for a reasonable price??

thanks guys.. my first time here... so bare with me!!
Thanks

100mW (output power) 532nm (wavelength, green) Mid-open (no freaking clue) Fixed Focus (you cannot change the size of the beam) laser pointer pen (typically in 2xAAA style long skinny pen)

100mW should be very bright, you should see the beam indoor during the day, and be VERY visible at night.

You can find reasonably prices and great quality lasers here on the forum in the Buy/Sell/Trade section.

For 532nm lasers, there are lots of chinese websites, check the companies section and do a search on the company name for some reviews on their service and the quality of their products.

I would recommend lasersman.com, but the laser I got from them did not work when i first got it, I had to do some soldering repair work on the driver/diode which I assume you're not up to.
but otherwise the laser was great, burns, and only costs $20 on their site..

I sell tested ebay lasers so you know the true output and I will have some green lasers around 100mW within the next few day's. Mind you the "100mW" you have is probably only 15mW or so (what kind of battery's are you using btw?). For burning this will get the job done but remember to get safety goggles for that laser ! these are low/medium quality | these are medium/high quality | these are high/very high quality | mind you the laser is 650nm/660nm so get goggles for the appropriate wavelength(650nm/660nm). Also try reading this it will introduce you to the basic's.

Mid-open refers to those 2xAAA pens that unscrew at the middle hence the term "mid-open".

At around 50mW the beam should be very visible at night. Brendon sells some metered pens. He might have some fairly strong ones.

I recommend you start out with low powered lasers to get a feel of things work. Don't jump on the burners just yet. They are VERY dangerous and will blind you if used improperly and without protection.

Never fails to amaze me. Girl posts, instant answers.

Mid open also sometimes means the laser can be opened at the tailcap, and also at the head, same as a lot of common flashlights. I wouldn't put too much stock in such descriptions.
