Hello, I'm going to buy a true 30mW laser pen from dealExtreme but i'm not shure about some things.
I know that pointing to someone's eyes is dangerous, and i think that looking to the beam isn't dangerous,is it? but is it safe to look at the point?

Thanks in advance, and sorry for my english

Okay, Well first, Welcome to the forum.. Second, a 30mw pen is quite dangerous if you get it in your eye, or in anyone elses eye. The dot is not dangerous, but if your to close to it, it may hurt after a few seconds, so i wouldn't stare at it for an extended period of time. The beam is totally safe to look at, don't point it at anything reflective, because if it points back into your eye, it may cause some damage. If you think you are going to get into laser's and buy more in the future, I would buy a pair of good goggles, just to be safe. There is a link in my signature for one. (they are expensive, but they are worth it)

Ok, thank you so much. I was thinking to buy this laser, and if i wanted to buy more powered ones, then buy the goggles, because they aren't necesary for this laser. So the point is dangerous if i look at it for a long time, but if i look at it for a second (for example) look at other thing and then look to the point again, i wouldn't get hurt?

You misunderstood, 5mw is the only "Safe"ish laser that if it gets directly pointed into your eye, it won't do severe damage, your 30mw would cause damage if you directly pointed it in your eye, or if it was reflected into your eye. I would buy goggles for THIS laser, but if you plan on getting more powerful ones later on, i would spend the extra 30 bucks to get a very good pair. So you should wear goggles for THIS laser. It will also allow you to stare at the dot without it hurting you.

Ahh, yes, i misunderstood, but if i dont point directly to the eyes (I know it can happen accidentaly, I'll buy ones) they arent necesary, i'm right? and what goggles, not very expenssive, if possible, would you recommend me for this laser?

Okay, i'd also like to say that since it's from dealextreme, it may not be that good. I bought 2 5mw greenies there, and one was way under-powered, and the other was overpowered. lol I would buy a laser from lazerer. I'll post a few links for the laser and the goggles.

Laser
LZGN - 532nm 30mW Focusable Green Laser Pointer

Goggles

So you should wear goggles for THIS laser.

Also, t-rex is not really known for their high quality goggles. I'd go with something like this:
Eagle Pair® 190-540nm Standard Laser Safety Goggles

I said to him not to get it from DX. He said he would be getting a 5mw anyway. And I know it won't be IR filtered. It's not crap information, for one thing I OWN a Trex, and it works GREAT, with my 50mw, so you obviously are the one with the crap information.

@heriotza the 5mw is a fun little thing to have, the beam is very visible at night time, and the dot can go quite far, i shine it at the woods near my house at night, and it's bright. As long as it's a 532nm, you should have no problem seeing it. I would advise you to get the 5mw, as this is your first laser, i assume.

@bennett326 I have done it at a buddies house of mine, I don't quite remember the exact amount that got through, but I never had plans on using it with a 1W or anything over 50mw, and i have got reflection shots back from miscellaneous things, and i have had no vision problems.
ALSO, My 50mw is IR filtered, I forgot to mention that, maybe that's why no damage was done.

Yes, it is my first laser, so i'll buy one 5mW laser, maybe the true 5mW of dealExtreme? i've read that it is up to spec.

Thank you for the help
