3.7v you should be fine. Give it short bursts, maybe a small resistor in the dummy...
Although this may be a little high. I'm not responsible if this screws your laser BTW... someone more experienced might like to answer.
10440 is a AAA sized 3.6 Lithium rechargeable. Since when fully charge it can go up to 4.2v so i am not sure about this but as u suggested a diode should help. Anyway i tried a Rechargeable 3.0v CR123, it actually works quite nicely which replaced 2xAA Alkaline but with better lithium regulation. Now my DX 30mw can hold its full power as long as i dare to push the button which previously not possible without the infamous dimming after few seconds.
