First of all, hello, i came here with mostly asked question. Pot Mod. I have received my True DX 50mW laser which is actually ~20-30mW  first of all, after 1 day of using, the beam isnt so bright anymore  so now i want to try to Pot Mod it. BUT, I cant take the front part of the laser as you know its strongly glued and i have read that you have to use knife, but anyway, I cant open it. Maybe someone has good ideas how to open this? :-/

Try a search of this forum on how to open it. It has been discussed a few times.

all you have to do it take a drill bit and drill a hole aprox. 3-4mm above the on off switch and inside (with the help of a light) peek around for the pot screw ;D

no just directly above the button but carfull not to drill to deep. those dx lasers are hell to get open if you dont like the hole just put a dab of hot glue in it sand smothe and paint (for ezy access later just incase you want some extra power to impress your friends ;))

I could not find the threads myself, either.

-remove batteries and reinstall the battery tube
-drill a hole in a small block of wood just smaller than the OD of the laser
-split/cut the wood in half through the centerpoint of the drilled hole
-place the laser (cap only) in the wooden clamp
-clamp the wood in a vise
-heat the head with a hairdryer or heat gun (don't over-do it)
-put on some leather gloves and twist the laser body while the assembly is still warm (use a steady, smooth pressure - don't jerk it)

Just FYI.....
Newwish lasers now use a Feedback sensor to control the current.

Some of the new ones don't even have a POT, while on others turning the Pot does NOTHING!

If you're dead set on Modding the laser.

There are 2 tiny wires from the feedback sensor that are soldered to the circuit board.
These will need to be cut before the Pot will really do anything.

Even so...the entire pot mod and cutting the feedback may gain you Nothing.

If the laser could do a lot more power.....believe me the manufacturer would have SOLD it as a higher mW laser!!!

That may be very bad advice - there are several different versions of these lasers with the pot (if there at all) located in different positions.

Somone hear had a prob just like that with one of their true lasers, they tried the pot mod and it made it back to normal for a day then it messed up again so they bought some energizers e2 lithiums and it fixed it and was even brighter then the same type that his freind had.

...lazer... ;D ;D ;D

Ya heres how you open the laser! I made the mistake by drilling into my first one and the pot turned out to be on the bottom ::) Then I started drilling the the bottom part and the pot was insight but when I pressed the drill button a little harder, the bit gripped the edges(metal) and the bit just shot straight into the pot and ruined the laser...

Here is how you open it.

Throw a towel over a table vise ( to prevent scratching ) and put the silver tip of the laser in there. Put the tip 3/4 in, not all the way to the black. Tighten it to the point were the tip cannot slide out or anything. This is going to have to be pretty tight, it is scary doing this part because it feels like your are just gonna crush the whole tip. Let me tell you now, I have applied alot of pressure on it multiple times and I didnt even bend it. So the tip is pretty strong. When that is tight start wiggling and pulling it. Wiggle forward and back and pull out. When you start to see it seperate SLOW DOWN on the pulling. If not, the thing may just rip apart suddenly and you might F up the laser such as knock off the actual button ( not the plastic piece, the real button ). You will see that there is no glue, it is just very tight.

HERE IS A WARNING!

When you pull it out, the button will fall. DO NOT let the button sit on top of the batteries! I didnt think letting the button sit ontop of batteries would do anything but when I poured the button out onto my hand, it got stuck in the webing of my fingers and burned me. IT GETS EXTREMELY HOT!

Ask if you have any questions...

( You guys want me to make a longer more detailed tutorial on this for a sticky? So questions like these dont get repeated. Just ask... )
