Osram PLP520-B1 520nm Green Laser Diode

Did a bit of testing on the new PLP520-B1 tonight. I was amazed with the spot size for a multimode diode. Compared to the M140 the spot size is about 1/3 the length. Based on this test 450-550mA probably is the sweet spot but more testing is needed to determine that.:eg:

Here is the spot size @ 25 feet.

Ok, first of all. I have no clue what all this @700 and all that means but I can say one thing to Mr. DTR here.

Those new diodes look awesome:)

Keep it up DTR +1

Wow. That's amazing 250mW of green safely and almost round dot.
Now I'm going to safe some money ;)
+1 for introducing another great diode to our community

Oh yeah!!!
Thanks a lot for testing. These are looking so good I might grab one before the 1W version drops enough.. we'll see after ARG's tests.

Do you intend to test the 90mW version as well? I'd guess it's the same exact diode - they're probably binning the lower power ones as B2 and the higher power ones as B1.

I just got my PL520. now I have to wait for this to lower in price. :p

Jordan, How does the dot (at long distance) and does it need a bit of heatsinking compared to the PL520? Now I have to start saving parts for a host that will use this.

The PL520 is a perfect dot. This is a little bit of a line but only about 1/3rd that of an M140. Pretty damn good.

I missed so much while I was on my laser break. *smh* Thanks for doing these tests and keeping the diode market fresh with new stuff.

Do we know how these bad boys handle the current as far as wavelength goes? I mean 300mW is awesome but is it still in the 520nm range?

Great. Now I want one. :(

My PL520 with 3 element has a very good dot. Hits clouds with ease and still a small dot at that distance compared to 532s

Nice. This is what I've been waiting for. One of these is going right in a copper pen :D

Wow these diodes are very promising and should be a good replacement for the current 200-300mw DPSS. That dot @ 25 feet looks like the dot of a 532 dpss at the same distance, although very slight elongation

I don't think these will be replacing DPSS lasers completely, as they are still different wavelengths. I personally really like my 532nm lasers and my 515nm laser, and wouldn't be okay with only having one of those wavelengths. This does, however, look like a nice extension for the 520nm playing field, and will satisfy people who really want to be able to see their beams at will.

Thanks Jordan, you da man. I was waiting for these and the 1W diodes , I'll definitely recommend these with my new pen hosts. Should make a killer build. +1 and hits DTR's shop in envy.

Thank you for the testing! I should get my diode from you tomorrow!

This looks to be a promising diode that's for sure. DPSS 532nm is now at risk at becoming obsolete for a lot of applications, especially when the 1W diodes come down in price. It is so cool to see this unfold!

DTR, have you enquired anywhere about having the 1w 520's supplied to you yet? I'm just curious if your source for these can obtain the new 1w ones as well. Even though they are extremely expensive it sure would be nice to have access to them from a reliable source. I am also curious if you have looked into distributing the newest 445 rated >3w. Unfortunately these are listing for about the same as the new 1w 520's right now.
I love my lower powered 520nm I received from you recently but I sure wish I had waited for this one. Guess I will just have to own two now....
