Hello everyone I just wanted to chime in and say I just ordered an RPL-400 from Jack @ Optotronics, I can hardly wait for it to arrive.
Jack is a very pleasant person to deal with. For now I'll just have to live with my Nova Lasers X-175 until the RPL-400 arrives, just kidding; the X-175 is also a really nice Laser.  Still the thought of all the power of the RPL-400 makes me drool, can't wait.

I too just ordered a RPL-225 today. $808.32 with safety glasses, certification and 7.5% discount for being a forum member! ;D I too am totally stoked about turning it on. I would like to fry some starlings(pest bird, invasive). I saved quite a while and burned some midnight oil as well to get this one.

I might go ahead and just send in the 225 and go for the 400. Really thinking about it right now, but I need to consider how much faster it drains the battery. So tempting...

Actually, battery drainage should be the same. They both use a 2.5 Watt Pump diode IIRC, the 400 just as more efficient crystals.

just thought id share this with you, i upgraded my RPL 225 to a 400mw mainly for visibilty. the visual differences between the two isnt much unless you held both side biy side. of course, interms of burning capabilities, the 400mw will burn twice as quicker. so if you need it for burning, its wise to upgrade, if its just for visibility i would simply stick to the 225 and save around $700 as there wont be a huge difference as to beam brightness.

Here's what it looks like shining against a wall, lights up the whole room, the sun is currently out, but all the shades in the room were drawn, but it light the whole room up, kind of hard to capture the beam coming out of the laser; I'll try & figure out how to do that, the beam is very bright going across the room up to the wall it's pointed at, and yes I wore goggles because the wall is white.

Oh yeah!  MORE PICTURES!  You know the drill!  Optotronics is #1!   I have the 225 (very powerful, awesome laser that doesn't leave me power thursty) and I just got the blue 35!  Jack is #1!  Nice stand too btw!

Usakicksass, congradulations on your purchase! The 225 is an amazing unit.

Peace - Ace

Edit: I love using incense for beam shots (check out my reviews [smiley=smiley_down.gif])

Hi, I'm just new in this forum, so I apologize in advance for my eventual mistakes :-/. I have seen in your picture that the RPL-400 you purchased is the "adjustable" one. There are really advantages in spite of the not-adjustable version? I love the idea to buy a laser with 80,000 hours of MTBF, but will the switch have the same life?

No idea of how long the switch will last, also you have to put a very small screwdriver into a tiny hole in the tail-cap and "count" the number of turns from 0-9 or 9-0 depending on which way you turn it.

You can not really see the number unless you point the laser at the floor at about 45 degree angle and then it is still very difficult to see the offset/recessed numbers. So basically you have to carry around with you a small screwdriver and put it into a very small hole to turn the RPL on or off.

The Laser does come with a 1 year warranty though, and you can alternately order the laser with a non-adjustable tail-cap too, running at full power all the time. Hope this helps, any more questions please feel free to ask; I don't think any questions are dumb questions especially when you don't even have the product yet. There are plenty of users on here that have RPL's, ask away.

Thank you for the explanation, now it's more clear; I have red carefully all info in the Optotronics FAQ, but I have found them not sufficiently exhaustive for the adjustable version. For the moment I own a DL Viper 95 mW, and I believe it works fine (at a distance of 15.75 in it lights up a match in 14 seconds); anyway I'm trying to understand which are the Companies selling good products as I have decided to buy a more powerful one.
