Well i'm not sure i made the right decision on this laser

as i've researched a lot on here & can't find much good said about it except from DJNY who posted some pics that looked ok! & he said its well worth buying & also from a few posters who i guess are maybe saying it to be nice cos its too late!

I read that

1. The focusing isn't good, it just goes from a big circle to a dot!, bearing in mind i'm no expert! Is this bad? Also it takes time to warm up showing 2 dots initially!!

2. It has issues with bad divergence (excuse my bad terminology if i'm wrong) that it creates a 8ft diameter circle at 3000ft! I mean my 1mW red Plus pointer that i had since 1995 has a small dot at a long distance!

3. That at 200mW, some have written that the beam can't be seen inside unless night time & that the beam is dim! I mean i thought at nearly 200mW (as Susie says it is) i would expect to be able to see a beam in the day, although not in bright sunshine!
Is this a battery thing, that the ones it comes with aren't powerfull enough, i dunno!

I may be wrong & showing naivety in knowledge & am underestimating my purchase & yeh, i've seen videos & pics of lesser powered lasers that look great & all i want!

All i want is a good looking (which i think it is) laser, that has a good beam that goes forever & can be seen indoors & outdoors at dusk or if i'm lucky in the day!, That burns when focused, pops balloons & will impress people by its output & display! I may be totally blown away by it because of what i'm used to (5mW greens) but i'm thinking i won't be after the comparison reviews of the 200mW torch & if i'll see my moneys worth as i haven't got $150 + to throw away!!
I just thought by getting 200mW from O-like, i'd be doing good, as i've heard so many good things!

I haven't had any personal experience with that laser, but I'm sure someone on here does

well i have seen a few & thinking 'can it be all that bad' with a 200mW o-like laser!!
from what i'm used to, maybe it;'ll blow me a way & it'll do all i want!

The lasers from these cheap chinese retailers are usually never at spec at higher powers. I'd probably rate it at maybe 100-150mW at best.

The reason i bought from there was because i was told Susie was very reliable & in the sticky thread it says that o-like rarely sell under spec lasers & Susie herself said that its tested at at least 175mW +.

Lots of people rate o-like & rayfoss lasers on here & people on here buy from your so called cheap chinese makers!! I know some threads where they have been tested at over stated mW!m i'm just wandering about mine!

Don't worry about it.
You will not be disappointed, considering the price you paid.
Both rayfoss.com and O-Like sell some of the best cheap lasers you could ever import. Much better then what you would get from DX.

If you want anything better. Your going to have to buy used, or add at least another $150 to the price tag.

I have the same laser from O-Like it's just the 50mW version. The beam looks good to me + it will even burn dark objects. Your getting the 200mW version. Even if it comes in at a low 175mW your still going to have a kick but laser for $160

You seem like an impatient kid... "No we're not there yet..."

You opened multiple Threads... and PMed me a multitude of times
(about this same laser) because you are so impatient... and I responded
with....(here it comes)... Wait until it shows up and you test it for yourself...

We are not mind readers and can not see into the future...
We DO NOT KNOW if your laser will be UNDER... ON... or OVER Spec.

Just sit tight and wait for it.... :cool:

Its just i get conflicting messages about this laser & it took a lot of mind making to end up ordering as i want it to be a 1 off purchase for good laser as $160 is a lot of saved cash for me so i wanna get it right!

Patience isn't the thing, its whether i'm gonna get what i paid for when i could've gotten the rayfoss one which everyone seems to be raving after!

Conflicting views is evident even on this thread as 'Things' says that its a cheap Chinese retailed item & gonna be half the power or a quarter power less than i thought & then 'rpaloalto' says that his laser is kick ass at 50mW, burns, great beam etc.

I know i can only tell when it arrives as you say, i just wish i saw less contrasting views as i do with other models.

Although this YouTube Video is not the exact Laser you bought, O-Like only has Two 200mW Lasers on there site, I'm sure they work the exact same way, as they almost look identical, and O-Like is not gonna lie about one laser over the other.

BTW, if you feel that you made the wrong decision now because of you doing more research after you ordered, maybe next-time you will do more research before you order. I am just saying, I researched for almost a month before making my decision with the Rayfoss 200mW, patience is virtue.

Yeh, i did research for a while but the rayfoss site was down for ages & i couldn't see anything what they offered! I was gonna buy this laser :-

but was told here that it would be under power, only for someone on a local forum to say he bought it & its actually 220mW for all of £56. By then i'd ordered from o-like!

The vid looks good, although they can be misleading as you can see! The beam on the laser is actually brighter inside in a light environment than it is out on the balcony!

I believe I said to you that the only way to be sure would be to buy and test it yourself, which would be a risk considering that alot of those style lasers are sold underspec...;)

The fact that that laser has been tested at 220mW is supprising but as it is a chinese laser it is not likley to have an IR filter, so it may only be putting out ~170mW green and the rest IR, who knows.(the o-like laser will not have an IR filter either by the way but it should be of a higher quality and it is focusable)

In any case wait untill you receive your laser before making a judgment about it, I am pretty sure that you will not be dissapointed. If for any reason you are dissapointed, as others have said contact o-like and tell us here on the forum...:beer:

I thought the IR filter blocked out some power to protect!?

If its focusable, does that concentrate the power, like narrow the beam & concentrating all the power to a narrower area? Maybe then the burning area will be at a specific place in the beam? Then as you un-focus, the beam gets less concentrated therefore the output spreads over a wider area, therefore less bright?

Does the output power stay the same whether focused or unfocused?

I guess i won't be dissapointed as opaloalto says his is 50mW & has a good beam & burns!

sorry but you have that backwards if you have a IR filter you will see less total power out as the filter takes out the IR which also registers on the power meter.

But you are right about the filter blocking photons to protect, that is it's job.

If you focus to a small dot all the power is in the width of the dot, if you spread the dot wide the power is spread wide, dose this answer your question ?

NOT having an IR filter will give a higher reading than with an IR filter. An IR filter would filter out the IR, so if the laser was measured at 220mW without an IR filter that is the toal output including IR. With an IR filter (so it is just the 532nm green light being measured) it may only put out around 170mW. I hope i explained clearly, lol...:D

You are right, the power output of the laser does not change when you focus, it simply focuses it into a smaller area which is better for burning (think of a magnifying glass under the sun)

I also get this from Rayfoss Laser 250mW costing $295 with IR. Every Laser I have ever seen with IR cost much more then Lasers without, and they also clock-in at being more powerful.

having IR in the beam will give a higher reading and i guess it will burn better too, it just means that there wont be as much green light in the beam so i guess the beam would be slightly dimmer, although you wouldnt really notice the difference with your eyes.

I guess they tend to put them on the more expensive higher power lasers so that they are safer etc. with the cheaper lasers i guess they do not include IR filters for the cost and also so they can quote the power figure including IR, thus making the laser seem more powerful than it is, that is just me guessing though...:)

For a laser to be puting out 250mW with an IR filter would mean that they would have to use a much better module than the ones used in the cheaper lasers, hence the higher price tag
