The Alpha is capable of running for 5mins (recommended) time and 60 seconds shut off to cool down. Whereas the X-series has a duty cycle of about 90-120 seconds before it gets hot 
X-125's are RARE...
Hard to get one, and there is usually a waiting list.
Alpha series 125's seem to always be in stock.
I think there are two factors...One is as you guessed, price.
The second are the safety features built into the Alpha.
The three second delay and the "Safety Dongle" seem to be the features least liked.
