I visited O-Like for the first time today and saw 2 greens that i'm trying to decide between.

400mw focusable - 400mW green laser torch /focusable/waterproof [OL-532-350] - $196.99 : Welcome to O-Like.com, Your source for laser products

450mw IR filtered - 450mW New portable Green laser torch/IR filtered [OLNGL400] - $389.00 : Welcome to O-Like.com, Your source for laser products

I want to get the focusable, and it's priced somewhere in my budget, but it isn't IR filtered. How much would the IR filtering affect the visibility and burning power between these two?

I think the more important thing is really safety. IR is more dangerous in part because you can't see it. Personally I have been looking at the 450 IR filtered laser you've mentioned BECAUSE it has the IR filter. I look at it this way:

400mw that is not IR filtered isn't 400mw. It could be 300mw of green and 100mw of IR. It'll be as bright as a 300mw green, and MIGHT burn as well as a 400mw laser, but will be as dangerous as a 400mw laser.

450mw IR Filtered is 450mw Green and next to no IR. It'll be as bright as 450mw, it'll burn like a 450mw laser would, and (yes, you'll need safety goggles) it'll be safer because you know the output is all there in green. There's none that's hidden in there that you can't see.

(Meaning if you had glasses that only blocked the 532nm wavelength, a 400mw laser without an IR filter will still let through IR light and because you can't see it, it's still doing damage)

Hopefully that makes sense. :)
