I sent my lasers to GooeyGus for a pot tune-up. After measuring it, the laser was unstable, but was jumping to 130mW and surviving. I found this pretty crazy. a 45 jumping to 130

That's not surprising. I've been tempted many times to see how far I could turn up my X105...
It outputs ~120mW very stably, and It makes me wonder if a couple turns could make this thing a X150...
Now I've got it in a better host, I really wanna try it... but I've got no meter.
Anybody with a meter live in Southern CA? I'll shoot the beam in your direction, and you can try to catch it!

the weird thing was that the power was pretty on-par with where it should have been, I was doing a long test on it. After about a minute or maybe a bit more the power was down to about 35 or 40mW, and the body was getting pretty warm so I was about ready to end the test. All the sudden it gets much brighter and the needle jumps up to about 130mW and held there for probably 10 seconds before coming back down to around the 50mW level. I couldn't get it to happen again while testing it with the meter, but it did happen a couple more times when just shining the laser outside. pretty weird!

No pot modding CNI black/gold lasers! Bad bad bad idea. You risk killing your laser instantly - if you get lucky, you'll only decrease the lifespan of your laser by an order of magnitude or two - and for all that you might get a measly 10-20% increase in power on a good day. I agree. I actually turned his down a bit, right until it matched up with nova's power numbers
