I had a cheapo ebay special green laser sight that I mounted on an AR once (don't have it anymore, it was crap) it was before they had decent weapon mounted green lasers.

Anyhow I'm just looking to get one to play around with, etc and I don't want to buy another one anytime soon so I want a decent one but don't want to blow a lot of $.

After doing some searching on this site I think I'm going to get this one:

SALE! X125 Compact Portable >125mW Laser w/carrying case - NOVA Membership - 1495 LightYear Reward Points SAVE $50! - X-Series - Novalasers Inc.

I like the pen size and the fact it takes AAA batteries. My question is, in this price range should I be looking at something else that's a better deal for the $?

I'm sure you guys get tired of these questions but one mroe won't hurt:thanks:

Er, seriously? The NovaLasers (Laserglow) one is a CNI... The Optronics one is clearly a NewWish/DX/ebayser type.

The Optronics one may *DO* 150mW for a lower price... but for how long?

I have three of that style, the Optronics NewWish style ones... One doesn't work at all anymore, one works after I hold it in my hand for 5 minutes, and the other jumps all over the place for power.

On other hand, my two 3-year-old CNI greens both work fine, all the time.

I did say "I'd personally go for this one".
So just recommend for crying out loud! :na:

Okay, sorry, yeah, I was a bit over-emphatic... Just had a bad experience with those lasers...

Just because the outside of the laser looks the same, doesn't mean that the inside of the laser is the same. I can guarantee that the Optotronics pointer will outperform anything of it's price and even comes from a company with trust in the US.
I myself have not ever bought from Optotronics, but I've been around here long enough to deduce that Optotronics sells quality lasers.

Its still the exact same guts on the inside just held to better quality standards.

phoenix77 (aka rob) is selling one in the Buy/Sell/Trade Section:

http://laserpointerforums.com/f39/fs-novalasers-alpha-125-a-46105.html

But he is selling it for the same price as the new one. Maybe he doesn't realize that and you can get him to lower the price.

He is selling the alpha series that has more heat sinking and uses AA batteries plus it has all the FDA safety featurs

For a weapon mount, I would not recommend a pen style. The runtimes aren't as long, and heatsinking is poor. Plus, they won't preform as well in extreme cold or heat. And 125mW is usually too much for a weapon mount. 50mW is plenty to see a very visible beam. Here are my choices:

Tactical Ultrafire host Green laser 50mW£>5~200mw green laser pointer£>Laser&lighting products£>www.0-like.com

Rayfoss (waterproof would be nice in case it rains)

$21.66 New Keychain Green Beam Laser Pointer Pen Flashlight 30mW/50mW/100mW - BudgetGadgets.com (least recommended)

f22warzone, thanks for clarifying the laser I'm selling, which BTW I'm asking for $100.00 LESS than the actual retail price. Personally, I think it's a GREAT DEAL. The ALPHA 125 is in A-1 condition, FDA compliant with all the safety features, & comes in a nice ALUMINUM BOX. Total run time is under 3 hours total, so it's basically Brand New, & if you knew me, you'd know I treat my lasers like GOLD. They all look like the day I bought them................. rob
