Hi

I have recently re-found my interest in lasers and am looking to purchase a green keychain laser. I have tried to research into this myself, and understand laser power can vary depending on manufacturer. I would like some advice on the best one to buy and some general questions:
* what is the most powerful keychain laser available on the market?
* will the beam be visible on a keychain laser?

I had been considering buying this one, DealExtreme: $28.32 True Green Laser Keychain (50mW)
Would you recommend it?

Thanks in advance for any help given, it would be much appreciated.

Regards

Are you located in the USA??

They will not ship that to you if you are.

Ledshoppe has 20mW 1x AAA laser, a friend of mine ordered it a week or two ago, in some 2 weeks when it arrives he said he will send it over for a power measurement.

I'll make a nice review on the way also.

But you'll wait your ass off for that.
I reccomend LEDshoppe for begginers lasers, el-cheapo and crapo-oh quality, but they work.

i think i have decided on the laser to get (unless there is a reason not to.) The laser seems available or a similar laser is available on a few different sites, i would like to know if you think any one is any better than theother, or is it a pricing issue. Thanks, they are linked below

I totally agree with Eudaimonium on all points, but I want to stress that although it's a cheaper quality than something from, say, Optronics, I do think it will get the job down without burning out in 3 hours like some of the real cheap quality lasers sold on Amazon. I shopped around for awhile and given my needs, LEDShoppe definitely fit the bill (great quality relative to the other inexpensive sellers and great customer service). I ordered the silver 50 mW pointer for $24 http://ledshoppe.com/Product/ledp/LP1076.htm (free shipping, although it does take about 2 weeks to the US) and couldn't be happier. It's a strong, solid beam that doesn't fade. I was so happy with the order, I just ordered the keychain 20mW version for $14.99 today http://ledshoppe.com/Product/ledp/LP1086.htm (again, free shipping).

I also heard good things about laserland, so I may give them a try for a blue-violet pointer New 50mW 2 in 1 Blue Violet Purple Laser Pointer with a Star Cap - $36.00 : Laserlands

I'll be damned, those were same two my friend ordered (keychain 20 and silver 50 mW ) HAHA

Anyhow, you are lucky with 2 weeks shipping from China.
Here to Croatia it takes good 4 weeks, maybe even more !

Eudaimonium- Just as a followup, I received the keychain pointer last week (8 days) and it's working great. Takes one AAA battery, fits in my pocket and produces a super bright beam. Let's hope it lasts. Thanks for everyone's help

I received my <20 mW keychain pointer from LEDShoppes today (labled computer part on customs declaration). 11days delivery. Compared to my 33mW Optotronics pen pointer I'd estimate it must be 50mW. Definitely brighter.

Green Laser Pointer Key Chain - Silver or Black, Pulsed Diode, No Min Order Size

This keychain laser is only 5mW, but Z-bolt sells quality stuff. And this item is currently on a 25% off sale.
The home page has more details.
I got that laser from z-bolt and it sucks.
The batteries drain even when the laser is not on, and those LR44 (A76) don't last very long anyway.
It's pulsed, not CW.
It really is 5mW (no more).
I would go with the LEDshoppe keychain one: http://www.ledshoppe.com/Product/ledp/LP1086.htm

That's a bummer. It would probably be better if you used a tiny LiIon instead of the LR44s.
Personally, though, I like pulsed lasers as pointers.

BTW, Z-bolt's products are supposed to be less than 5mW.
