1.5W at 4amps using 808nm diode to make green can be done but 8000mw at 1.6A no way

what did it cost you to make if I may ask?
Have you tested your LPM to see if it the same as some one on LPF? I did with the help of DTR and jetlasrs and they were the same ,If you do that will help you prove the power out that your get is real.I know when I got 3.5w out of a 445nm lot of people called me a liar so I proved them wrong .Not saying your lying but you may have a real world record for the green laser handheld and it would be nice to have some one back that up and you get the credit you deserve!!! A+

I know that the 8W is fake as hell, no need to tell me ;)

I also measured my red custom built from RHD and got the exact same results as he did. Its also in my signature.

It worked fine for about 1,5years, then i decided to built the new host and due to the broken driver the diode got killed :/ But new diode is on the way and i hopfully manage to repair it ;)

The record needs to stay in Austria!!! :beer:

Interesting Green Diode Type Comparison:

808 nm System = 18.75% Efficient (8W input/1.5W output)

Direct 520 System = 14.1% Efficient (Nichia specs)

That tool has been questioned about accuracy but it is not far off either way. It is certainly the brightest beam I have seen.:cool:

I think that tool is probably about ~80% accurate for the beam and maybe around 60% accurate for the dot. I tested a 2w 445 against a 90mw 532 and according to that calc, the 90mw green dot should be nearly 1.3 times brighter than the 445, but it's nowhere near. I'm sure the 1.3-1.4w of 520 is a fair bit brighter than 3.5w 445 :)

I want that diode so bad, I have the money, I'm Just hoping the price will drop in a few months. Also my Paypal decided to have limitations so I'm stuck with buying whatever is on Amazon. Thank goodness he sells parts on Amazon otherwise laser costs would be a fortune for me and also would be nearly impossible to pay for with out a working paypal. but Nichia is going to make bank off of these diodes from the multi-million/billion dollar entertainment-lighting industry.

this thing is strong/bright .Hitting a wall at 25 feet away you need glasses, but I do not on the new 4.6W 445nm laser I made.

Rick, would you mind doing a comparative beamshot of both diodes at night?
And perhaps a daytime beamshot of the green, if it's possible ;)

Just made the first handheld laser with the new 9mm diode hit 1.53W holding around 1.46W at 2.76A in my coooper heat sink I call it the Green Mantis

Very cool! A build like that deserves its own thread alongside DTR's. 1.5-1.45W is a record in the 520 wavelength. Cool to know that the laser outshines 5W of 445, I asked about exactly that on the other tread.

Yep keep in mind the reading on the Hulk was a stabilized reading after 10+ seconds. That is why I did not use my ophir to get a reading as the initial surge would be over 1.5W as well.:beer:

I've got a little over one pound of copper in a sink Flamingpyro built for me for a Frankenstein host. It's a direct press 5.6 and I am thinking it is time to pull my 2.1w 445 out of it and have it re-machined to accept this. How would 1.1 pounds of copper compare to the 2/3 pounds of aluminum you estimated it would require?


From Nichia:


At 1 watt output, this LD will dissipate 6 WATTS of heat due to it's lower efficiency.

This is beyond the capability of most handheld devices.

From dissipation work I have done with multi-emitter UV lights,

this will require about 2/3 of a pound of aluminum in a light.

I would be very cautious in regard to overdriving.

The 1W Green Nichia LD dissipates 273% more heat than the new 445nm LD's per watt @ rated power.

Don't lose a premium laser diode.

Copper has +40% heat capacity and twice the thermal conductivity. Capacity wise you've got 1.54lbs of aluminum.
