I have discovered that creating a Google Alert for NDG1116 is kind of worthless as it is flagging everything from vehicle tag numbers within online databases to all sorts of advertisements like the following:

attachment.php

That wasn't worthless to me! :D

Here is an interesting link or two...

515nm laser; 515nm green laser diode; laser diode module 515 nm; laser 515nm

Good to see these diodes are now available for a reasonable price (200?). 515nm is a pleasing color and I hope to possess one of these diodes soon.

They are relatively inefficient however - > 1/2 watt (~660 mW) is required to produce 25mW of light, and around 6 volts necessary. Despite this I see no reason these diodes will not be pointerizable, however the battery life will not be very good.

I am actually surprised by spec being such low power. Wasn't there information floating around that the green diode is 50mW+?

As for the 5.6mm package, I guess it's because they bundled the photodiode inside, instead of the early ones of 3.8mm.

There are two types of Green diodes:

- The Osram diode, tested by rhd & aryntha in the 3.8mm package
- And this 5.6mm diode from Nichia

They´re two different diodes from two manufacturer.
The Osram diode is the one getting cheaper according to this article

The Nichia is still $$$$

That's great that they're getting cheaper but that doesn't matter if no one is selling them... :scowl:

I am glad we have now two manufacturers. That would speed up the production and bring down the prices.
