Where can I get one? I actually don't think that I would really want a 1W green just because of how bright that would be. Even 100mW of green is really bright. I would probably just run the diode at 500mW so it would hopefully never die. That's still extremely bright.

They are 4k from Thorlabs if you can't wait. Otherwise wait for a projector to utilise em and rip it apart.

The above is what I'm waiting for, I'd rather buy an orange than a green for $x,xxx

GB ? I think the most I would reasonably pay for one is $500 but even that is way above my laser limit ($200).

From 4,000$ to 500$? We would be talking over 9,000 pieces for that to happen. Just wait till they are in a PJ, it'll likely happen in 2013 sometime.

If we could get them down to $500 right now the hobbyists would be THE market.

Are we taking predictions? I'm going to shoot for late october - mid november next year.

This makes me wonder what's gonna happen to the pricing of DPSS green lasers...

If they're cheaper than DPSS would the price of DPSS green lasers go down?

There will be always demands for good beam spec green laser. The DPSS beam quality is still unmatched against a multimode diode.

For handhelds. The diode can easily be tamed with optics for projector use.

I'd imagine it would. They'd have to keep up with the competition some how.

@Le Quack

The prices of 473nm didn't fall when 445nm came out, I doubt green diodes will change the price of 532nm DPSS.

^^^ that is what I was about to post- the price is stll high but of course the demand did drop-- for 473nm

rumor has the laser folks in china worried of late- reflected in some of the lower prices I have seen.
Sales are down for the first time- example 5mW 4o5 pens 30 to 100 mW shipped free for $4.65.. valueoffer on ebay- I got a bad one- they replaced-hapened on the next buy ( i got 4 and 5 at a time) they are replacing that one too. many other members got some with no doas.
greenies for $6 free ship-- 1W RGBttl PJ 25K $480 - Canton Laserphoto
230 mW 638nm mini lab (sold as 180mW) $77 at AixiZw/ fan and TEC
500mW 532 JetL PL-E 400$
500mW 635 JetL Pl-E $379.99 GB
10K scannersets $<50 laserphoto/hakgb

This is so exciting. The DPSS may just disappear to the oblivion, similar to the CD-ROM. I love my Osram 520nm @70mW, but definitely will love this much more.

man what is with the necro posting this week? Every time I come back here, there are about 4-5 old threads being Frankenstein-ed back to the top.

Is it necroposting week? Some internet holiday I don't know about?

Why would you come to this old thread and then reply to someone's post from the middle of the it?

Necro-posting is easy to do when you’re a newer member. Being new myself, I’ve already committed this fuax pas. It’s due, in part, to nearly every post showing as unread or new. In an effort to be self-reliant and read is much as I can, and to avoid Jerry’s chastening, I read and read, and then respond before I realize I’m looking at a post several months old.

It may be prudent that when new members register, all existing posts are marked as read. Of course, from that point forward, anything new shows as unread. Then, when searching or reading, it will be easier to know “this is an old post, maybe I should not respond to it.” Likewise, new “unread” posts are open season.

The key point in the announcement from Nichia . . .

is the efficiency jump from 9% to ~15%.

This higher efficiency means a lot more applications in projection.
