Hi all,
This is my first post.. lol

I am looking to buy a good and nice (good looking) <5mW green laser pointer for my girlfriend at christmas.
We are scientist and will use it for powerpoint presentation.

I have been looking at optotronics and laserglow so far.

What are the other possibilities?
If you have any suggestions, I will enjoy any help from you.

Thank you

I would personally go with Laserglow.
I can tell you that the Galileo is excellent quality and very good for continuous use.
However, if you want just a pointer, the Lyras seem to be the best looking and most affordable.
Laserglow has good customer service, too.

Another option is the Wickedlasers CORE, however Wickedlasers charges too much for shipping and the Lyra is better anyway (in my opinion). Most users here do not trust Wickedlasers.

Dragonlasers also sells a 5mW version of their Viper series, and they have a decent reputation.
Edit: I just checked... It looks like they no longer sell it...

Your last option is Dealextreme or Kaidomain. They sell 5mW lasers for a very low price, but they are poorly made, are not infrared filtered and may be over or underpowered. Plus they are not aesthetically pleasing.

Welcome to the forum.

Edit: Had to fix a few spelling errors.

Thank you
An other GREAT piece of information: I am living in the US !!
So far I understood that >5mW will not be shipped in the US.

i will look into the WL but I agree that they seem to be not as good as others.

I will keep looking but will appreciate other comments and suggestions.

Thank you again

You won't find anything <5mW. 5mW is pretty much the minimum. You could use a green optical filter (Ebay), but 5mW won't cause any eye damage. 5mW can ship to the USA if is has the 5 safety points, making it FDA certified. But for a 5mW pointer, get the Lyra. You won't be sorry you did. ;)

If you do choose DX/KD, only go for the true 5mW green pointer. But even then, there's a high possibility that it might be overpowered, so it's not recommended. Do NOT get the 5mW from LEDShoppe either, as those are consistently overpowered. You want a nice visible green dot, but not something extremely bright and distracting, not to mention unsafe.
