Hello, I was on laser community forums, was banned for mentioning a competitors product name, totally lame.

I am considering purchasing a high powered laser and have a few quesions for those who might be more knowledgeable.

1. Are there quality differences among manufacturers? For example, is one 200mW laser more or less powerful than another of a different make?

2. Anyine heard of laserpointerking lasers? I am looking at their $600 200mW green laser called the powershot.
3. What about techlasers 200mW skybolt for $659?
4. Also looking at NovaLasers NOVA200 for $799?

5. Are there any lasers that i haven't found on the web that would be worthwihile?

any help greatly appreciated....

YES! Some manufacturers are SCAMMERS! Green lasers, especially, are easy to scam because of IR tricking laserchecks.

I have never heard of the first company, though IIRC the skybolt is made by techlasers which is another of WL's companies, they manufacture knock-offs without the quality of the originals. (ALL RUMOR NO PROOF)

The NOVA lasers are awesome, everyone here tha has one will tell you tehy're great, IIRC we have a rep from nova on the board, in fact.

Best companies are NOVA, Optotronics, and Laserglow. There is one more that is showing promise (rep on here is "bridge") but they're sellign labbies so I doubt you'd be interested.

Hi laserPDX,
Welcome to the LPF.

To answer your questions.

1. Are there quality differences among manufacturers? For example, is one 200mW laser more or less powerful than another of a different make?
Definitely there are differences.
200mW is 200mW, unless they are specing peak power at turn on rather than average power over minutes of time, but that is only the power output and only one of many important specs and attributes that need to be consider. For instance, you wouldn't base a computer purchase only on the CPU speed; other things like company reputation, amount and speed of memory, video card and it's speed....you get the point.
Other important laser specs would be low divergence, the build quality, seller reputation, warranty length and reviews/comments from others who have bought from them.

2. Anyine heard of laserpointerking lasers? I am looking at their $600 200mW green laser called the powershot.
I havent heard of them, but other may have???? I suspect they are very new as no one has mentioned them until now. Until you hear from others who have bought from the them and posted reviews, I wouldn't be in a hurry to send them money.

3. What about techlasers 200mW skybolt for $659?

I do know about this company and the skybolt. Techlaser has been around for just over a month and their business practices and morals are very low, they are also owned by wickedlaser. read this thread to learn more about them.

They sell counterfeit Optotronics RPL laser as their "skybolt" brand and sell other counterfeits as well.
You might want to compare our RPL laser to their "Skybolt" RPL counterfeit in this thread/post, which shows the real costs for each by the time batteries, chargers and more are taken into consideration.

4. Also looking at NovaLasers NOVA200 for $799?
A much better company than techlaser or that laserking place. Novalaser has a pretty good reputation and doesn't sell counterfeits.

5. Are there any lasers that i haven't found on the web that would be worthwihile?
As you might suspect... You should at least checkout and consider our Optotronics RPL.
Lots of good reviews around here and customer comments too, just ask someone who owns one or do a forum search for RPL or Optotronics, I promise you won't be disappointed at all with an RPL.

I just got the Nova 200 and it is a FREAK! The quality is remarkable and its continuous output is over 200mW. You won't believe the beam you get at nighttime even with a lot of background lights on. I just received it on Monday and I must say it was a great decision to go with Nova. There isn't one thing about it I don't like. It is like holding a fine surgical instument. It actually has that feel to it. I doubt I'd ever buy a laser from anyone else now. Well worth the money. And if anyone from Nova reads this, THANK YOU for a great laser!

That's one hell of a laser you have! Post some pictures please! Compare it to the size of a pen and a pic of it in your hand please. Also, night pictures !

I whole heartedly agree with the mention of :

Nova Lasers
Optotronics
Laserglow

Please note that if you buy a laser from any one of these three companies, you will be buying Quality products from very reputable sources!

With all the Scam artists out there...we are really lucky to have three great sources for product and customer service!

Good luck on your decision!!!

And welcome aboard Laserpointerforums!!!!

Enzo..you are going to have to upload them to a site like Photobucket first..or have some other public space available on which to host the photos...
this site does not actually allow you to upload directly to this server...

You really only insert a viewed link to the image hosted elsewhere.

Also...You may not be able to link to Photos until you hit a predefined number of posts...

I know that putting links on your messages is only available after a certain number of posts..it may be the same for inserting photos...

To tell the truth..I just figuired out how to insert photos last week or so...

If they aren't too big..I'll take care of it for ya...

I'll start another thread so we don't Hijack this one...

Well...I guess if this helps the OP make a decision after seeing the Nova...it's not completely a Hijack...

If they turn out to be too big to e-mail..

Just E-mail me the URLs for each photo...I can then create the post, and link to your files.
