Well, I made the plunge. Had some PTO I could cash out at work so I did just that and purchased an RPL-400 from Optotronics. Jack is incredibly nice. I forgot to mention I wanted the 30mw green laser pointer with my order and he just e-mailed and said he included on that just verified 54mw. I went with the Optotronics because of what I've read here, plus I liked being able to get an 18 month warranty instead of the typical 6 month warranty.

Anyway, I had it shipped overnight and should have it tomorrow. I'll post some pics and results once I get the battery charged.

The RPL-400 arrived. Average output is 426mw. The "30mw" pointer that was given free comes in at a whipping 52mw. Both are very well built and have authority in your hand. The RPL-400 is incredible. There isn't a balloon safe within 50 feet at my house. My lungs are getting a workout and my daughter enjoys helping as well. I'm quite amazed at how well this thing performs. The goggles are a must in any close quarters condition as this thing is very bright. I was skeptical at first getting this device, but I highly recommend it if you are looking for an amazing handheld device. I just purchased the "55mw" rated pointer from Optotronics as well. I'm hoping it comes in with an average of about 75mw.... I'll let you know.

That's a nice number. I would also love to have a Vette with a 454.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH. That V1.5 Kenometer makes me cringe every time I see it. Zeroing pot right next to the sensor, uneven hole around the sensor. Blech. I learned a lot in building each one on how to do it better and you got one of the first compact units I made. My apologies!! :D
