New Rayfoss 350mw laser dimmed after minutes

low voltage in the batts can make the laser output only a small amount of ir. i know this because when the batteries were going dead on my green module, the only thing i could see was a dim red dot and no green, but when i recharged the batteries.... bingo! it was green again. so i have a hunch its just the batteries, what does it run off, 18650?

stuart :)
Yeah it uses 18650 types but there were two cr123a type batteries at the box but i didnt use them i used my 18650 battery.I suspect that at customs they used those two batteries to run the laser and damaged it.Goddamn customs.I still wonder that where those batteries came from.

Sounds like the 808 LED'd.
They have a warranty. Just email Faona this evening, and she will respond during China business hours.

I ordered from them yesterday afternoon, and by 10:00PM (California) I received a confirmation email from Faona, and she answered a few additional questions I had asked. So I know she's around and answering emails, I just think she is really busy right now.
Patience.
Yes she answer now.Btw whats the problem with that 808 LED'd?

Chances are, the laser was shipped with those batteries.
Customs doesn't have time to play with these things and if they ever open a package, you'll know it, it will be taped back up with US customs packaging tape that says on the tape that the package was opened and inspected.
Were the cr123a cells of chinese origin (ie. chinese writing on label)?
The fact that cr123 cells were in it, speaks volumes about how much these drop shipping places know about the products they resell.
If the cr123 cells are USA type like energizer/duracell and english writing, it's possible that this laser was sent sold to someone in the USA previously and it was returned for some problem with the buyer forgetting to remove the wrong batteries he put in it and it was then resold without even retesting; I've heard some pretty strange horror stories about some of these cheap reseller / drop shipping places.

Package was open when i received it.It just wrotes LIR 123A 3.6v 1000mah on the batteries. This product was customized to me by Faona. So what could be happened if they put those two batts to laser and tried to run it ?

did you put two 3.6v batteries in or one?

stuart :)

Hi Alpertuner,
Then it was not a returned item as it was customized to your needs.
Are you in the USA?
If so, then it would have had customs tape all over it had they opened it for inspection.
If it arrived in an open state, it could be that it wasn't taped/sealed very well and by the time you got it, it looked to have been opened. Often when packages are not well taped/ sealed and start coming open, the post office will tape it back shut to keep the contents from falling out, in fact my mother-in-law just sent me a birthday gift a few days ago and it looked like it had been ripped open and taped back up, I'm sure this is what happened to my gift.

It would fry the driver and possibly the diode as well. One 18650 is around 3.6v to 4.20v, and the same for CR123's using two would double the voltage, frying the driver...

LED'd = BLOWN
(from the picture you provided, it looks like your diode is blown)
You may have put too much power (more than 4.2V) into the driver, and killed the 808nm (pump) diode.

No Im not that noob to do it :D
I knew that its working with 18650 type batteries i did a lot of research before i buy.
I just wonder if the guys at customs did it.
Because when i received the laser it didnt work at first.

Nope unfortunately I live in Turkey and we got some crappy post service here.

Strange if the guys at customs did use those batteries for a short time would it be broken because It didnt work at first but after few minutes I tried again and it worked and everything was fine

Hmm I think they tried to run it for a short time and damage the laser but if they would do that I wouldnt run the laser?
