Pretty cool, they have lots of very cheap lasers there. How hard is it to buy international?

Are those beamshots yours? How bad is the divergence compared to the 445nm and 638nm diodes?

Also, here are cheapest choice to buy the 520nm diode currently If you know how to buy in taobao : :na:

both are selling ~$650

The price dropped quite fast, maybe it will meet 100~200 as we expect soon enough

Not mine ,those just photos of that handheld from the manufacturer. You can check the divergence on the datasheet. Isn't it?

Ops. Someone actually contacted to nichia and found out those pricy diode are just test simple for promotion and they are free. So threre are no suggested retail price confrimed. :wtf:

No, i just want to remind those who want to buy the new 1w 520nm diode on ebay or somewhere else think before they order one. Those who are selling the diode received them freely from nichia and their value are unpredictable.

That's the divergence without any lens. I'm curious about the "real world" divergence on a handheld unit. But thanks for all the info anyways :)

Maybe someone can calculate this?

Beam size: At 10M < φ13mm

If that's true the divergence isn't that bad at all, <1.3mrad!

Re: New Nichia 9mm 1W 520nm diode

I don't think this will be at all difficult. Probably a 4mm aspheric collimator followed by a cylinder pair with 3-5 power magnification will square up the beam and give performance similar to the 445nm diodes. A prism pair would probably also work, but as CDbeam says the losses will probably be greater. The divergence from the emitter is similar to the 445nm diode. If the emitter dimensions are similar (I can't find this) then the performance will be VERY similar. I heard some rumors prior to Photonics W. last year that they had diodes in the lab that were already producing well over 1W, but that they were more vulnerable to heating than the 445nm diodes and this might mean the over-driving will be limited.

One year is a long time compared to the development of these diodes, maybe they already evolved to survive heat better

o-like now has them, even cheaper.
LINK

says 100 units in stock....maybe these arent test samples like we thought! With the pre mentioned sources claiming to have thousands in stock, o-like claiming to have 100 in stock (which i would be more likely to believe, since they are mostly reputable)- maybe these have already started being mass produced? Perhaps we will see a wave of DLP projectors using these. My bet is they will drop in price, very fast, very soon.

Maybe I read the last page wrong? Seems some guy was selling for around 650, then again after reading the last page my over-excitement got in the way of my critical thinking lmao :p

O LIKE is confirmed at 870 USD currently
